Listen amigo, I will tell you what I think, if you are receptive to what I have to say - and from this post ^ you seem as if you are. So here goes MY opinion:
I am older than some on this forum so I think of the Supra in a different way maybe, and always have. I see it as [what I think Toyota intended also] as a bit more of a refined automobile than the Camaro or Mustang. Many times Mustangs and Camaros are owned by kids. Even at high schools parking lots you will see them in brand new form, but I have yet to see a high school kid with even an MKIV Supra. I always thought that new Supras were targeted towards engineers and folks just out of four year colleges, not high school kids. So to me, such a car should have the refined look of a gloss finish. But that is how I see the car; it has been many years since the MKIII was on the dealer's showroom. I still have an image in my head of when I was younger and seen one in the showroom. The way that was presented will always make me wish and aim for my car to look like has been well kept and newish, and wanting it to look like the one I seen in that showroom.
Flat finish = Camaro look ... that works on Camaros only IMO
Pearl is not fun to fix
Plain black is much easier to repair.
What is more awesome on a car than see it shine?
When it comes to painting, I take that as serious [if not more serious] as any mods you can do. Do it right the first time, and be done with. Don't skimp out on the paint if you can help it. I would never buy a car that was painted poorly. It looks like the owner desperately was trying to hide something and could not fix it the right way.
A finish gives a car value; mods don't. (As far as book value is concerned IIRC.)
