oil pressure too high

my oil pressure at idle is about 40psi, and 75-80psi at cruise. the car is running smooth and im not experiencing any other issues. i havent really realized that is was so high until a friend mentioned it at the track the other day. its way above the norm according to the TSRM.

some backround:
during my build last summer i upgraded the oiling system to a full flow system. removed the pressure relief valve/spring, put in a bigger cooler and a thermostat. i installed new oil squirters and a new toyota oil pump (i did not shim the pump). im using redline 5w30 and change oil filters every 3000miles. plan on getting an oil analysis at 5000miles and changing the oil at 10000miles.
currently the plumbing goes like this: oil from engine > dual oil filter mount (wix filter > trasko bypass filter) > oil thermostat > oil cooler > thermostat > back to engine
there wasnt clearance to install the prosport sandwich plate on the block, so i mounted it on the oil filter relocation mount. thats where the oil pressure and oil temp senders are located. i have prosport temp and pressure gauges mounted in the car.

what could cause such high oil pressure in my system?
could the high pressure cause damage to my motor?
what are the chances the gauge is waay off? (i foolishly hope this is the case)

thanks in advance to any advice or input on the matter

Pete - What are you using on the block to feed the cooler circuit?

Is the Prosport sandwich plate's only function for the oil pressure & temp sensors?
When you say on the filter relocation head, where exactly? The conventional or bypass filter side?

It's very possible it's the sensor ;)

on the block, im using the canton block adapter to feed the cooler circuit.
yes, im using the sandwich plate for the press and temp sensors.
i mounted the dual filter relocation inside the fender, on the conventional filter.

i hope so, i dont have the stock press gauge hooked up so i have nothing to compare it to.
if the pressure was that high, wouldnt the wear be excessive and i would notice somethings wrong?
maybe ill send a oil sample a little earlier than planned to see if there is any abnormality.

i guess ill have to order a new press sensor from them and see what happens
thanks

Test the pressure at the stock location. BTW - that is where you want to read pressure from anyway...it is the most accurate and reads actual pressure being supplied to the bearings. Where you have it now, depending on pre-filter or post filter on the sandwich plate, may be subject to filter restriction.

Is the pressure been the same since you installed this from the beginning? Or, did it start after a recent filter change?

ill try that first... ive got to get an adapter to make it fit. and there probably isnt enough clearance, but ill make it fit
originally i had the conventional filter located after the bypass so i switched them. im pretty sure the pressure has been the same since it was installed.

Are you using a mocal oil thermostat? IIRC, they changed the design of the thermostat a few years back and the latest install instructions do not apply to the old design (bolt head position specifically). I'm not exactly certain of the consequences of installing the thermostat incorrectly, but I suppose doing so could cause a high idle pressure.

edit: i see in your sig you are using the mocal.

im not sure if i have the older design or not. i ordered it last july so i assume its a newer version.
whats the difference in the installation? i just followed the arrows on the thermo as far as flow direction

thats some good info.... i know what you mean now. if i plumbed it to the wrong side of the waxstat, the high pressure would be on the engine side of the oil circuit, which would explain why i have a high pressure reading since the pressure sensor is between the thermostat and the engine. but the only thing bothering me is that i still get the high pressure when i first start the car, and the thermostat would bypass the cooler until it warmed up.
i will have to check out which version i have and how its set up.
if i did get the older version, wouldnt they have sent me the older installation instructions? i would assume so

thanks for the input

I didn't even get instructions with mine (bought from racerpartswholesale)...which is how I found out that there were two different versions of the waxstat.
