I'll keep that in mind, besides, I'll be the one rebuilding my motor that way I know it's done right the first time

i feel you... ill never buy a motor like that again. im assembling my newest motor. forged internals, etc. only machining done by a shop. cant wait till this summer to get the new built motor in. ill have to settle with a stock motor till then.
so let me get this right. a stuck valve could be the cause for the excessive burning oil ive been experiencing? before i throw a new head on, i want to be sure that it will help.
Well, a valve stem seal could be the cause. A stuck valve could be the cause for zero compression.
Excessive oil on the valve (Stem seal) could be the reason for the valve to get stuck, if the oil is coking on the valve seat or face.

so this should greatly reduce the amount of oil consumption that ive been experiencing. since i have a new turbo, my old turbo was ruled out. and this stuck valve is currently the prime suspect. i guess ill see

my oil cosumption wne WAY down after I rebuilt the head and had new valvestem seals installed.
On quite a few of them the seal had completely desintegrated, and the head was stuffed with carbon from the burning oil...

Check the valve clearences if it's a bent valve you'll have a huge gap between the cam and the shim.
The one that's one right now is what I'd say Ian's talking about, but if I were you, I'd go ahead and check the one that you're getting ready to put on, just to be safe .

ok thanks. i plan on using the head that im taking off for the new motor if its in good condition. i know its not a great idea to put the newer head on the motor without machining it, but if its in decent condition, what kind of problems could i expect?
#1 Should be have the replacement head hardness tested BEFORE spending a cent on it.

Starscream: hahaha.... i know its a possibility and there are no guarantees. but i just need this to hold up for a little while. i dont want to spend a bunch of money to get this rebuild if im just going to have to do it in a few months on the new motor. are you saying i shouldnt even bother putting this head on temporarily?

Pete: yep most shops should be able to test it if not find a better shop.

i completely agree with you. but im not trying to spend too much money on a temporary fix. i guess im going in circles here. i know what should be done, but i just want to get by for now.

If it's just a stopgap grab the head clean it well fit a composite gasket and go for it as is.
And keep the boost low of course.
