so i just changed my oil and when i removed my oil filter it was as if it was brand new, there was no oil inside it whatsoever and it still even had a nice clean film of oil on the rubber gasket (from me applying before installing last time), whats going on??? according the the TSRM (http://www.cygnusx1.net/Supra/Library/TSRM/MK3/manual.aspx?S=LU&P=2) the oil filter is fed oil almost directly from the oil pump, my oil pressure is around 35-40psi, and the car runs great but i am concerned, any suggestions/ideas?

cliff notes:
drain oil
remove oil filter (CLEAN WTF)
install new filter,
fill w/ oil

Using the stock filter head I assume (i.e. no oil filter relocation circuit)?

What kind of filter?

I suspect your oil relief valve is stuck causing the system to bypass the filter completely:

RPS - Is there any oil inside the inner tube at all? Did you cut the outside case off the filter to see if there was any oil on the outside pleats?

Reason I ask: Toyota OEM filters have the bypass valve on the dome end...if it is stuck, it will allow oil in the outside chamber then exit out the center hole, but not through the media. I'd cut the filter open for more info...sounds like (since you had oil pressure) the filter bypass was functioning.

If the filter head cooler relief valve was stuck, you would have noticed a significant drop in oil pressure.

did you jack the passenger side up and let it drain a bit before pulling the filter? thinking since its NA (should have been stated!!) the filter drained when the car was jacked up on one side

Did it feel like a shit laden diaper?
New oil filters are very lightweight.
You should easily be able to tell if there is any oil in it.
