Oil? Does anything really bad happen if you have the oil level above full?

When your crankshaft hits the oil, it dose the egg beater effect and starts to arriate and the oil starts to foam hence oils pressure starts to drop from having air in the oil
this is why you have a wintage tray,... to keep crankshaft from hitting the oil
ex: when you have a tub of water, if you sweep your hand in the water, you'll notice the resistance as compared to just sweeping your hand in the air

Yep, I wasn't being clear,..again
I'd go with Starscream, I'd say that's more accurate, it would be closer to that as he/she disscribed

as a side note, my 5w-30 penzoil platinum is at the same pressure as the wal-mart brand 20w-50...

changed the cooling system and the car runs much cooler, so it may account for it as the oil isn't having the cool as much of the engine. Listen to jdub, he doesn know what he's talking about....sometimes j/k

I see a lot of people saying 1 qt + isn't going to harm anything, but wouldn't it help with the age of our engines? When I change my oil, I burn about 1/2 a qt. per 3000 miles.

Fix your engine.

My engine has a lot of mines on it and now I don't care for it. Everything is lineing up for the 2jz and if this damn over time will stop at work I'll be working on the swap. Last night I was in the office until 3am.:3d_frown:

Then what exactly happened in my GE? I overfilled the oil, the pressure pegged on the guage, the car ran like shit. I drained some oil, and the car got better.

I was always told that more oil pressure puts more pressure on the seals, and this is what i was always told would happen:

I filled my car with 6qts on a bone stock oil system minus the driftmotion oil pump crossover tube and i have killed 4 rear mains now and i think my current one is leaking.

So wtf is the deal then?

Excuse my mistake if I have made one I didn't bad mouth any oil I just simply stated what happened in MY experience. There is no need to simply jump on the thread bandwagon and start flaming.

conventional, synthetic, no brand, expensive brand, who cares...

As long as it reads on the stick you're fine. 3k miles to change your oil is really low and a waste of $$ if you drive normal. 7k is about right.

Answer my question!
You or jdub or someone knowledgable.

I know its not typed out to well, I'm still recoving from 26 hours over time, but would it help if we did add that extra qt. since you older more knowledgable guys are saying it doesn't harm anything. Our cars do have a good amount of age on them and they do burn oil, how ever little it be.
