Oil? Does anything really bad happen if you have the oil level above full?

Wally World SuperTech is made by Warren Oil. It's actually pretty decent oil. Bottom line is if an oil is an SL or SM rated Grp 3 or better it's fine for use in this car. And yeah, Frams suck but it's a question of value more than quality. Millions of people use the Orange Can O' Doom without problems. That said cut a new one open and look at how it's made compared to say, a PureOne. Scary.

Hmmm, I use fram a lot, I might start going with another filter. Didn't know they were that bad.

thnx JJ, and Ian.

Still, tell me why are ALL ( at least I think so:icon_razz ) car manuals say, in bold letters, avoid overfilling, or the engine could be damaged?

I think they are talking about people like my cousin, who would fill it until it would level off with the oil cap.

Metal soup, eh? :D But ermm... I just argued with my father, who stands by his opinion, that ALL the mechanics say, never to overfill, or the engine will get damaged. Also that's said in alllll books. His other arguments are, that who the hell are those guys in internet and what do they know, and that I believe what some guy said.... :D
But yeah, I understand, that this not-overfilling style probably got me the rod knock the first time the car was really driven hard. :)

<< 30 years experience in performance cars worked as a fabricator on a few major race teams here in Australia and actually took the time to fill and measure 7M pans to arrive at the 1qt safe overfill suggestion instead of just pulling information out of my arse like most of the "net mechanics"....

so you have measured and 1 qt is safe. how bout 3 qts? im only margially curious because i have the canton 3qt accusump. its not always 3qts over, in fact it only begins to dump when oil pressure dips below 25psi so basically only at idle. when pressure builds back up it sucks up that 3 qts and waits for the next drop in press. but i guess theoretically, worst case, i could have 3 extra qts in the pan and be at WOT.

when i do my rebuild this winter i will install a crank scraper which i assume will minimize any bad effects of too much oil.

LMAO if you have low enough pressure at WoT to have the accumulator dump 3qt's into the motor only has seconds left in it!
(I run one as well)

Soon as the motor starts at least 1qt is circulating and draining back.

Hey, I belive you :icon_bigg I see that you know what you're talking about, but he doesn't. He thinks everyone on the net are just talking bullshit and have education of 3 classes or smt:icon_razz. But the mechanics, now they know everything about cars and those user-manuals... that's uberknowledge. I don't see why he can't understand that, like maybe only 1 mechanic here knows what's a 7m is... Other than that, my father is actually cool, but oday I got myself in an argument again:biglaugh:
But I still will get myself 1 extra litre in there :icon_bigg Btw, how much will it raise the stance on the dipstick?

So from full to full+1l would be like two millimetres maybe? Just guessing.
But about how much oil is there from L to F? Just out of curiosity now...?

I didn't measure L>F but it's not linear due to the shape of the pan.

If I get a chance later in the week I'll have my dummy motor on the stand so will get answers for you, mine at +1 is around the 3mm mark.
