so took the throttle body off to change my spark plugs and i quickly noticed a good amount of oil build up in the y-pipe and the side of the throttle body thats only visible once u take it out. If i remember correctly this is do to a warn out intake manifold gasket? if anyone can confirm or correct me that would be nice.

the 7m dont have a PCV valve like most cars, there a striaght thru vent. a PCV oil catch can is only way to slow it down. the EGR will leave a layer of carbon (black soot) in the intake, and as your in CA you cant disable it or you will fail emission testing. only way to deal with that is spray the intake with carb clean evey now and again to try to keep it down, or polish the inside of your intake system, as it wont stick to a smooth surface

I think he was saying that the 7m does not have a PCV valve.

And the EGR is definitely used during cruse.

alright so for the most part its normal? and a catch can will reduce any oil build up but nothing can really be done about the soot? am i understanding this correctly?

more or less normal. aslo remember your car is the 89-92 style, so its been breathing oil and soot for the last 15+ years. and the soot yes you will have to live with it.
