All this money, machine shop bills, special order gaskets, head studs, why not just run an LS1?

Fixed, if that's the direction you wanted to take ;)

Seriously, though - what's with everyone cracking on what motor a guy decides to build?

I'd like to see pics of the O-ring job on the 7M, myself :)

Does not matter if the the block is o-ringed or not, you still need to follow ARP's torque spec. Your question does not apply to o-ring block , stock block, or built block. ARP spec is still arp spec.

On my oringed block from my other car I used the same as stock specs.
If I were using a copper gasket on my 7m I would use the copper spray and then torque to 85 lbs, same as any other gasket.

I've wondered for a long time if anyone had o-ringed this block. With all the shit we go thru with headgaskets, it's about time somebody did it.

So a 7mgte block can be o-ringed and hold up to 500hp with the right tuning?

Cheers,
Roy
A copper hg- oring block will hold 1000 hp. Its what used on alcohol dragsters and stuff...
Yes it might be overkill for our cars but since we are prone to failure it might be the way to go, the copper material has advantages of excellent heat transfer between the alum head and metal block, disadvantages are you sometimes end up with some minor seeping issues around oil/water passages.

I have had great luck with no leaks on my z car engine with the copper. Im still leaning toward copper on my new build but may just go with the cometic because like the above post mentioned, you dont really need it for 500 hp.I cant imagine a hefty piece of copper ever blowing, the thing that worries me about our engines is the tiny studs and for this reason will limit my new build to 15-20 psi.

The only thing failure prone to the design of the sealing surfaces between the head and block on the 7M's is the low torque used from the factory by Toyota. Any HG failure after an attempted fix should be blamed on the car's owner/mechanic for not ensuring the head and block are flat (composite HG), and smooth enough for the proper RA spec for the specific HG used (MHG) and that the NEW bolts/studs are torqued to spec and in the correct order for the updated values set forth by Toyota, or are torqued to ARP spec if it is ARP hardware being used.
