Ok. So I was just GIVEN a 1986.5 NA-T from a kid who had to move at the last second. He was going to take it to the junk yard! What an idiot. It's HELLA clean. The only problem is that the headgasket leaks and some other seals but I'm not sure which ones. He knew nothing about the car. I got all the info from the guy he bought it from.

Is there any supra mechanics on here who would like to rebuild this engine for me? Give me a quote. I got a $600 +parts quote form a mobile mechanic but he's clueless on supras and I dont want my car messed up. Can someone help me out?

What are you looking to do with it?

Have it rebuilt so its driveable right now. Or I was thinking about just finding a cheap 7mgte engine and putting it in there and then later adding the the r154 trans. My main goal is to just have a complete turbo swap in the NA body. But I dont know how much it would cost to swap everything to turbo components.

I dont think its blown. The previous owner said its not blown but its leaking. He gave me a Greddy 2mm headgasket and said he didnt have the money to put it on. I just need to go get a gasket set because I want to replace all the gaskets or just get a running 7mgte engine

My price would be about the same as the 600+ parts you got quoted.

As long as you know what you're doing and you know supras really well, that sounds good. The other guy didnt know supras but he said he'd go by the book. But wouldn't it be different from the chiltons manual since its a non-turbo engine with a turbo?

He said he would have the head machined and everything. Can you tell me everything you would do to the engine?

what are you looking to do to the motor? because a lot of what you want depends on how much.

i could rebuild it for $300 + parts lol

but if your going to go out and buy file to fit rings, and all sorts of little shit that requires me to spend more time then just a regular rebuild, then the price would go up.

basic rebuild is easy, its when you add in all of those other things.

and heres a basic list of what i would do, even on a stock rebuild.

block:
deck, clean, either re-hone (if able to), or bore .20 over, if your just using OEM main bolts then your fine with all of that. new freeze plugs, and new oil pump shaft bearings

head:
valve job, deck, and clean everything, and make sure its still able to be cut (above 115mm height)

crank:
i personally like to cut cranks if they've had rod knock, or even on a fresh build just so i know all the surfaces are smooth and good, but thats extra machining time. i would have the whole assembly balanced, just because it makes for a smoother motor, and also what i learned through talking to the machine shop

if that Greddy MHG is brand new, then keep it sealed in a plastic bag away from dirt and everything else that could get stuff on it. you'll want arp head studs for anything you do, either stock, or 600hp... i would also suggest a vacuum line kit, a2motorsports.net is a vendor on here, and he has awesome prices on a TON of stuff. titanmotorsports.com also has excellent pricing on everything, please dont spend double the amount on some of the other sites for the same stuff....

I just want the car to run without issues. I was told that the gaskets are leaking so i want them all replaced and the head machined and checked for cracks and any bullshit that will mess up the engine. I know nothing about NA-T so I dont want to mess with it myself and these regular mechanics dont cut it for me. I want someone that knows supras.

im on my 5th engine now, rebuilding that is. and not one of my motors has ever had anything bad happen to it. the motor im building for myself right now i have more than 3k into it, and its still not ready to drop in. lol

it really depends how picky you are too, because i like to go out and buy new bolts for stuff, like the water pump, and front timing case, and intake manifold, so i end up spending some good money on little things like that, but if you keep it all organized, then you can just re-use the bolts.

too many 'n's.... lol
thanks for the 'approval'
im still jealous of that mr2 you have...

Ok...... Lets say I have $1200 to spend on everything. Give me a list of everything that would be done to my car.

Hmmmm.

Define Leaking HG?

How complete is the NA-T conversion?

I'd avoid putting a MHG on a motor with Cast Pistons.

If you want a Running NA-T. Do a compression and Leak down test. (Most of the time the rings on the NA motor are fine due to lack of hardcore turbo blowby)

If you want someone local to you. I recommend Karlo/KBR (Vallejo). Very nice guy and no BS. He has built a ton of supras, and won't bullshit you and will get you set, right.

If you want his phone number send me a PM.
