well i'm in the process of doing my gte swap and the only thing I am missing right now is an intercooler.

I'm assuming if you kept it out of boost you might be ok without an intercooler. What I want to do for now is to be able to run the car without an intercooler just to see if everything is ok with my connections and that everything is functioning properly.. would it hurt it at all?

Not that I would do this but what about general driving if you don't boost it?

any imput would be great!

Ok so the safest way to do it would run it N/A style and just run the filter and afm on the intake and not have any boost at all.. or would just connecting the turbo to the tb be a bad idea for the short term.

If you can work out an easy IC Bypass that'll work fine as long as you're not in boost for extended periods. (I ran ALL of my old turbo cars without IC's as they were "draw through" systems with Carbs)

the intercooler just cools the air... so im assuming without it you'd be fine? i know the old 2.2 dodge daytonas were turbo only, no intercooler.. lol

You "could" do it, but don't keep it that way for long, and stay out of boost as much as posible until you get your intercooler. The charge air would be too hot for comfort for me if I didn't have an IC and was connecting the turbo straight to the TB, but then again, you should have some quick spool with the little amount of piping you'd have!

I have a cool picture in my head, the front turbo cover clocked to the exit pipe is pointed at the tb direction and one piece of piping connecting it to the tb. Nice! Talk about quick! Run that all day and then when your engine goes into the red just take the head off and replace the hg and do it again!

Safe? Yes. Efficient? No.

But even calling it safe could be arguable especially if you're running much more than stock boost or any type of modified motor.

That being said, It would be pretty neat to see someone clock the Compressor housing so the outlet faces up towards the throttle body.

That would make for one hell of a spool. ;)

Cheap MS Paint drawing, but you get the idea. :)

i was thinking of using water/methanol intercooling on my supra with no air to air intercooler because of the quick spool.... seems like a good idea to me with water intercooling.
