I don't usually give into the "nice" things or the "pretty/cool" things. however I did LOVE the sound of the SSQV, and that is the ONLY thing i'm turned off about on the synapse. but logic is there. maybe sometime in near future that'll be my upgrade. But i'm really going to try and sort this issue out w/o replacing the BOV (barring that it is not broken) I'll try and get a sound recording of the noise maybe sunday. and post that up. maybe can get some actual diagnostics. who knows. ::crosses fingers:: it might NOT be comp surge.
It is a shame as I too love the SSQV sound lol. Sadly that sound is due to poor air release design.. Maybe not poor but definitely less of a design than how the Synapse or others like it operate. And yes, the Synapse sounds like a stock recirculated BOV  but it does the job of getting rid of air quickly and doesn't give boost leaks while under boost like some people with SSQV's have had.
The BOV very well could have broken finally for some reason after you tweaked the boost. Especially since it's 3 years old.
I'll probably get a mod in here saying I'm wrong, stupid etc SSQV IS DA SHIZ but whatever lol. I would recommend buying the Synapse, you for sure won't get compressor surge/flutter or whatever you're getting as long as your reference line (actually I think the Synapse uses 2 reference lines) from the manifold are in good shape and the BOV is installed right.
