In a nutshell heres how ya do it:
first ya gotta take the lenses off the backers. to do this ya need to pull the little pins that are melted into place that hold the two pieces together. I used a soldering iron to get the metal pins hot enough that they would pry out of the plastic. Then using a hair dryer, I heated up the edges of the lenses so that the old butyl rubber sealant would become soft and pliable enough to carefully pry the lens off. Ya really gotta work carefully here and make sure you get the whole thing hot enough that the lens comes off without cracking it.
After I rinsed everything with soapy water and scraped out most of the old sealant, I cleaned the inside of the lenses with Total Prep™. I then masked the reverse lights. The two circles I masked using the shelf paper I cut out using a big ass coffee cup as a guide, and I covered every other "rib" in the turn signals. Then I painted em using Krylon plastic paint. Let em dry, reseal using fresh butyl rubber and put em back on.
(butyl rubber in case you didnt know is mainly used in window replacement. Most auto parts stores that sell body and paint supplies carry it. I buy it by the roll in various diameters. It never gets hard, and will remain tacky forever. Its great when you wanna not only stick something together, but seal it at the same time.)
