Not bad Jay. I hope you got a good deal on the paint job because of all the short-cuts (I took the same shortcuts). For the moldings I'd use an industrial adhesive to put them on and then prime and paint just like the rest of the car. BTW, you're not the only "N/A" Supra out there that loves to screw with Honduh's that think they're fast. :D

Man why so many haters?

Car looks really good, Jay is happy with it that is all that counts. Everyone is an expert, until you have actually painted a car and gone through the heart ache and stress then STFU :D

Not hating, just stating the truth. I'm no expert by any means. I'm purely amateurish myself, but I wouldn't do my customers like that. That kind of job would come back to haunt me. I know exactly what it takes to produce a professional paint job and it's alot of work. From prep, to cut and buff you're talking about alot of hours.

I once had a coworker who wanted his car painted and said he wanted to keep it very simple (cheap). He just wanted the basic scuff and blow with the cheapest single stage paint he could buy. Just like a basic Earl Scheib job. He claimed to have done all of the bodywork already. I did it, and it came out shitty. His doors were wavy, dings all over the place, and the paint wasn't as glossy as I hoped it would be. Couldn't cut and buff that kind of paint he bought either. He wouldn't want to pay for that anyhow. A couple of months later that car was chipping and peeling all over the place. That was the worst job I've done.

That job ruined my reputation as a paint dude from then on. Everybody else was counting on how that paint job came out for me to do their car. I couldn't even justify why it came out so bad, they wouldn't hear it. I tried to tell them if I did it the right way then it would come out like a professional paint job. No luck. So from then on I DO NOT take short cuts and use try to use a very good paint system for my side jobs. With that being said, I don't get many side jobs anymore because people don't want to pay to have it done the right way. Everyone wants that show quality car paint job for $400-500. It's just not going to happen folks.

Another amateurish job I did. That car is dusty as hell in this pic.

Another. This one kick my ass. I was sprayed during winter so I did reduce the clear for fear of it running. Ended up orange peel the shit out of it (from my standards). I did alot of work wet sanding and buffing to correct it. It came out really nice afterwards.

For anyone that's ever seen my car in person, it looks great. All the mouldings were left on the first time as well and after three years, it's never had one chip or flake. I don't have the paint here in front of me, but it is an expensive paint. I'm sure there is more expensive paints out there, but this was the most expensive that they sold. It was about $400.00 for a gallon. I wanted to have extra paint in case I lost another targa top. I chose not to remove everything because I didn't want to spend another grand in this screwed up economy. If I wasn't going to the Texas meet, then I could have, but he did it exactly like I asked him too. Everybody always says they would have did this or did that, until it's them paying someone to paint it. I haven't got to look over it out in the sun and go over it with a fine tooth comb, but I was extremely happy with it when I saw it yesterday. Today may be different.
He used a nonsanding sealer / primer. Two coats of base coat and two coats of clear. It is a very expensive clear as well and it was shining very pretty yesterday. If this paint job isn't up to your standards then it's just lucky for me, it's my car and not yours. It's hard to have a show quality car and raise two kids without being a surgeon of some sort.........:icon_bigg
Thanks to all of those that posted good or bad. All comments are welcome. I hope to get some more pictures up later today. I've still got to do a few things to it before I can beat on it again. I have to install a catchcan, and tune it for the meth injection, but my dyno guy won't return any phone calls. His mailbox is full, so I guess he's on another freaking cruise.

Rob, I'm sure your "screwed up" paint job looks ten times better than most paint jobs. I can't wait for you to be completely finished with yours....

Shaeff..........Vonda has now forbidden me from ever meeting you.........

Thanks Scott, George and Kristel.

I've got the car home now and I found two runs. One is on the right side tail light and it's blatantly obvious. The other is on the drivers side door. Both are runs in the clear so I'm sure they can be fixed rather easily.

I'll try and clean it up today and get pictures of it. I may have to make a trip to Trussville to find a certain Blake Walker and find out why he won't return any phone calls.

Stay tuned for some cleaner pictures around onish or twoish today.

Car looks good Jay,always liked the look of the whale tails. In for more pics.
For all the haters, completely removing the trim, molding, etc. isn't critical, for coverage or peeling issues.Yes it is easier to prep with the stuff removed, but a good prep job can still be accomplished without.Peeling isn't from not removing parts,it's from half-assed prep work(people get lazy scuffing around edges.)
Shed/garage paint jobs are just as good as one from an actual "shop",a lot of times better(depending on the skill of your painter)just because the guy doing it on the side isn't under the pressure of "hurry up,get it gone,we have other cars to pump out".I have had many backyard jobs turn out as clean or cleaner than ones sprayed in anally spotless paint booths.

Thanks guys. When I left the guys house this morning, I was less than a quarter mile from his house and a giant doe almost kamikazied me.........:aigo:

She ran out in front of me, and I stopped just in time, but I was worried about another one coming in behind her and running over my car. Luckily she was either alone or the others were in front of her.

I've got to go to Birmingham to pick up five gallons of methyl alcohol from a guy and then I'll wash it when I get back. Thanks again for all of the remarks.

Awesome jay. I like it a lot. And I think the shortcuts weren't as big a deal as some others stated...I feel the same way about spending money right now. I almost dumped some pretty big coin in a new turbo and fuel setup but balked when I thought how that money would help if I were to lose my jobs. Are you doing any side skirts? Again awesome.

Looks a lot better than my $1300 paint job Jay. I got chips in a few places and spray on both flares in front of my rear wheels. Ian is right, a good paint job is 90% prep work and 10% spraying. Atleast the doe didn't hit your Supra like the one that did mine.

He may have changed his mind on it, but I doubt it being that he just had the car sprayed. But, when I had my car at his house, he told me that he wasn't fond of the sides as much as he was the rears. He did it in a nice way, but it still cut like a razor blade, ya know. Him and that other guy Noah.........they both made me feel like those sides on my car were ALL mine, and they didn't want anything to do with them. Fine with me.:naughty::biglaugh::evil2:
