Hey everyone! I'm Dave and have been a hardcore lover of the Supra for a long time. Yes way before Fast and the Furious. At this time I currently do not own one. I just can't seem to find any in the Pennsylvania or New Jersey area that are within reason. I know they hold rank and value but mostly what I'm talking about it finding nothing but automatics, needs way too much exterior work like rust and major body damage to finding nothing but an empty shell without an engine.

I'm not too mechanically inclined but would like to have something to work with and hopefully be able to do some of the upgrades to it myself. I've heard of swapping the auto for manual but not sure on all what would be need parts wise, money, how to do it and if I couldn't do it anyone around here willing to help. Plus I wouldn't want to pay crazy amounts for labor and to my knowledge there aren't very many if at all any Supra owners in my area. Least I've yet to see anyone.

Right now I'm looking for a 1987 through 1994 version/model of the Supra and willing to pay up to $5,000 as that's all I've been able to save for the actual car. If I'm going to be modding and upgrading I wouldn't want to spend too much more since I'm wanting to put the rest into parts and upgrades. But like I said I can't for the life of me through all the search sites find a decent one to work with. Anyone know of any in these parts and is anyone from this area?

I have recently found these two. Links posted...

Just not sure how much the first one would cost with fixing the head gasket and all. And the second one I know needs a new transmission and I would want to swap out the auto for manual but not sure. What it comes down to is I'm going to be upgrading/fixing it all anyway over the next few years anyway so I might as well go ahead and take what I can get right? Just not sure which one would cost more or be more cost effective? I've contacted the second poster to see pictures and would definetly be checking it out to make sure there is nothing else wrong other than what is mentioned.

Just thought these two might be my last hope since I can't find any others and the prices aren't too bad with what needs to be done I would be upgrading these parts anyway and am willing to pay up to $5,000 so with labor or whatever needs to be fixed I'd probably be at that price anyway with one or the other.

Wow sorry for the book but I'm stoked to be here and finally able to post! More stoked to finally get my hands on a real beast of a car and hopefully find some Supra lovers in my area! Nice to meet you all and again I apologize for the book but I could talk Supra night and day!

(Sorry if I shouldn't have posted all this extra stuff in this forum)

Welcome.
I'm in Doylestown. I agree clean Supras right around here are not that common. When you know what you are looking for exactly, you can post a wtb thread.
Good luck.
Dave

Nice to meet ya bro! Your roughly two hours or so from me but it's nice to know your not too far. Sweet Supras too!

If you had the room, I'd buy both with half of your budget or less. They both look pretty decent, and you'd have all of the 5 speed swap parts to put into the Auto, and a really nice looking grey leather interior. BHG shouldn't be too much of a deterrent, because you should expect to have one soon after purchase on most of these cars. I have learned the value of having 2 Supras around. It makes it so much easier when you can go look at the other car when you don't know how something goes.

If your talking about me yeah I could try to come to that. That would be awesome! Well I hear back from the guy from the first post and this is what he said...

Hey how are you. The car at this point is still available. It is in Secaucus, NJ in case you want to mapquest/google map it. The car really is in good shape and I loved driving it. Let me know if you are serious about looking at the car and possibly buying it as I have gotten lots of responses, but at the end of the day, it seems like most "want" the car, but either dont have the money to buy it, or just dont get back to me. If you have any specific questions, also feel free to ask. Just so that we are clear, I will tell you the things with the car that you may want to know about. As of right before this winter set in, I had an issue with the passenger side power window getting stuck. It seemed like the motor was stuck. I was able to get it working again (electronically) so I put the window up and disconnected the switch from the passenger side. If you plug in the switch, the motor may or may not work. I did not want to risk having a window down in the rain/snow/cold. Also, when I purchased the vehicle (which was purchased from a long time family friend, so I know where the car came from a good place), the sunroof was not working. I wanted to get around to fixing it, but quite honestly, I never really cared to use it so it just sat in the backburner and never got done.

As far as I can tell thats all there is to tell. Let me know if you still are interested and maybe we could set something up. :)

-Pete..

Then I just saw this add :aigo:

You know that is a really good point and I've never thought about doing that. I could afford both and swap what is good and needed from one to the other. Only problem is this house doesn't have a garage and with my Fiance's, and these two I'm not sure how I could work it. I don't want to pay insurance for two cars because I have to keep them on the street and cops in this area watch that. Although it is definetly a great idea and option I'll have to see what I can do. Thanks for the tip I really appreciate it!

Head south. Get away from the rust belt. I've had 4 southern supras, the one I paid the most for was $3200 with very minor rust, beautiful interior, turbo, targa, and it ran well (totally stock). So what if its an automatic - you can swap it out later when you have the $$. Fixing rust will cost more $$ than swapping out a tranny.

Use $1,000 for travel expenses, $4,000 cash will get you a nice southern supra.

I wouldn't spend more than $500 on a non-running car. Thats me. You show up with $500 cash in your pocket, I'd say you could get either of those two cars you listed on craigslist. The economy is not-so-hot right now. Its a buyer's market.

Yeah I have actually been leaning away from everything posted above. I have actually come across a 1989 Toyota Supra non turbo 5 speed manual for $500 with a blown head gasket. Think it's worth it? Still waiting to here back if it's sold or not but I would want to check it out before I buy it anyway to see if it has rust. But I'll check around like you mentioned.

Seems all the good ones are in the west:cry:
