So im at the same point you are, i tried everything to get the crank pulley bolt off. I ended up having to take it to toyota who got it off in 10 seconds. Lesson learned is break it before the motor is pulled.

But w/e you do... Dont take it to Honda, they will not be able to get it off... In this case the 7m Crank has more torque then Honda could handle... ( Funny Story to this one) :biglaugh:.

When re-installing my crank pulley, I found that it is probably not the smartest idea to wedge the block of wood between the block and crankshaft...I could not get anywhere near 195 lb-ft without bending the block more than I was comfortable with.

As far as removing the pulley bolt goes, get yourself a quality impact wrench, something that will give you 500 lb-ft+ of reverse torque (your costco/harbor freight $40 special won't come close to cutting it...mine sure as hell didn't). A snap-on impact gun made quick work of the crank pulley on my engine....sitting on the stand...without anything securing the crankshaft :)

yeah i barrowed my friends snap-on impact gun, cranked the pressure up on the compressor, and it cam right off. without anything securing the crank also.

^did you just end up torquing it on the car?

why do you need the pulley off? if you could possibly do the work you need to do to the engine with it mounted in the car, putting it in 5th, with the ebrake on will allow you to do chin-ups from your breaker bar. if its not breakable then.. bust out the 10 ft pipe lol

yep...car in 5th, ebrake on and brake pedal to the floor.

LOL, if your ebrake works, 1st gear is much taller gear then 5th ;) and no need to hold the break down. 1st gear and ebrake, then it is a one man job. Maybe that is just because my ebreak works like new.

I love how Creative this community gets.. that Gas powered gun was fkin' SICK!! i do want one.. and for the price.. its VERY tempting. (specially at this point) and yes mental note to break the bolt BEFORE taking it off.. however i never had this engine IN a car. and no i do not plan on re-using this dampner pulley again. currently looking for a long bar will try that l8r. and for the clairmont guy.. if it doesn't come off this weekend. you are definatly getting a call.

I want you to think long and hard about this....when you realize how dumb that was please correct it!

Hint: what do you always start in first gear and not in 5th?...

I feel your pain. i had a friend use a boa strap wrench on the crank pulley then i took a dead blow hammer to the end of my long breaker bar. Can't remember if I got it off by hitting it or just reefing on it. If you can't get a good air gun and compresser you're just going to have to man up, eat some spinich, yard a street sign out the ground (not a stop sign though, be sensible), stop the crank from spinning somehow and git er done.

or the trick my friend taught me, remove spark plug #1 and place crack so tht the #1 piston is at teh lowest point, then grab some rope that would fit into the spark plug hole and keep shoving it in there until it seems full, then move the crank up so that all that rope is compressed in there and the crank pulley wont move anymore, use a breaker bar to get it off after that, this worked with me, so you should try it

I wouldn't do this for this.

Get a BIG Impact.

Since you're not going to use the dampener... Do NOT use one of those unorthodox lightweight pulleys, they AREN'T dampened and will kill your engine. Get a stock one or the ATI dampener.

I would just say cut the damn thing off, but you don't know if it's siezed in the snout of the crank and if it is it's going to be hell getting it out. I'm assuming you're going to get machine work done to it anyway, let the machine shop deal with it (I did when I snapped the stupid banjo bolt on the back of the head).

SUCCESS!!!! :icon_razz:icon_razz:icon_razz

Okay here's the update been awhile but got it off last night.

I tried to bolt 2 pieces of metal to the crank on the back side and attached to the block. those didn't hold for jack.. ended up ripping both pieces of metal in half. and I kept breaking 2x4's. So i finally went with the rope trick. I put rope in both cyls 1 and 6 at about 15* after TDC. then i pulled the crank back around till it compressed the rope.. BTW I DID pull the cams so i did not have to worry about bending valves (granted both would've been on the power stroke but didn't want to risk it)

after fking with it for some time. still no luck.. I broke a 3/4" breaker bar.

Finally last night me and some drunk buddies were talking about it. So we doused the bolt in PB blast (again) grabbed my buddies craftsman 1/2" breaker bar and an Impact Socket. put those two on there.. layed the engine on its side (its stripped to the block and head.. had both buddies Standing ON the engine.. bracing against the roof of my garage. and I had a 5 foot. copper pipe and a 2 foot steel pipe. both attatched I managed to hang ON the bar feet of the ground for about 3 seconds before I jerked and managed to brake that bolt OFF!!! after removing the bolt. I inspected the threads.. NO FRIPPING corrosion!!! it was VERY clean :icon_evil so 6 foot bar and 3 drunk people will over come ANY bolt.

Suprisingly, my crafstman 3/8" impact did that. I though I was going to have to brace it. But then, maybe my bolt was loose?
