I will agree i put in my own option in which you explained to me mean nothing. I understand that but there is alot of people on here i will bet that thinks that Lucas is a rebuilted in a bottle. When it might be what is causing alot of the damage to their motors. Is there anything type of oil additive that is good for the oil. I use Mobile 1 with a Mobile 1 fitler i will say i always felt that adding a 1/4 of abottle of lucas to top off everything made me feel the oil is better shape with it then with out it. So a person should just use oil with nothing added right? Again sorry for the highjack, this is just very big news to me. Thanks for the heads up Jdub

Jdub's done an excellnt job at covering these topics. Oil already comes to you with additional lubricating agents, detergents and so on. The best way to run would be to run the oil and periodically have it tested to see if the pack additives are present in a sufficient quantity to do their jobs and make sure the oil itself is still serviceable. I change oil filters a lot more often than I change oil...

Oh, and color has NOTHING to do with an oil's health... well, unless it's green. ;)

I apologize for coming across as harsh, but I've seen this kind of reasoning quite a bit. I am glad it got your attention though. ;)

Most modern motor oils have a well balanced additive pack in the oil...add additives or mix with other oils and you skew it. The oil will not perform as formulated as a result.

Take a look at the Lube section and read the link authored by Dr Haas in my sig. A lot of oils out there are advertised as a synthetic, but in reality are not. Mobil 1 is one of these oils...a "true" synthetic is PAO or ester based (Grp IV or V)...Mobil 1 is a Grp III hydrocracked dino base stock. Mobil 1 filters are good, but over priced for what you get...there's a thread in the Lube section on this one too.

The operative words here are "felt" and "feel". They are words by which snake oil firms survive. There's a simple answer to all this, the same one that applies when dealing with fuel "enhancing" products:

Oil companies spend billions developing a product for one of the most competitive markets out there. They can afford to possess the finest research labs in the world and employ the best petrochemical engineers available. If there was something that would make an oil better they'd have already done it.

Agreed with all that but one thing when you are talking fuel additives. Is adding the octan booster ok or not..I know that my car will ping on 91 if i use booster i don't ping. 91 is the highest you can get around my part of the woods. Or is this just a different subject. I do enjoy the converstion please don't view me a stupid, i just like the discussion.

Octane boosters all pretty much use the same thing...toluene. You can get the same thing at a paint store (Sherwin Williams). Xylene will work just as well (Home Depot). Add a gallon to a full tank and you'll raise the octane 2-3 points...the small amount in the bottle on the shelf really doesn't do a lot.

Post 21 shows how to figure what octane you're running when you use either ;)

By "enhancing" I meant fuel economy, either additives or hardware. Octane enhancers fall into a different use category. That said your engine has an active knock control system and should not audibly ping on 91 if everything is working right.

to hopefully answer your original question....i think that hose goes to the vaccuum modulator tank thingy under the intake manny. mine broke off during the rebuild. considering vaccuum is an important part of this engine, i glued the nipple back on and it's fine. sorry for the crappy pic. good luck.

Alright well I got the Supra runnin. No leaks so far. I am having some trouble though. At first I had the distributor in wrong but I moved it over a tooth and I checked the timing with my light. Seems to be sitting at about 20-25 degrees before TDC. Idles about like it used to before I ever took it apart though. Missfires at idle and missfires a little bit when reving it up. Sounds good though.:biglaugh: Anyways, after it get's warmed up for a minute it it doesn't wanna idle. The idle get's unstable and it tries to stall itself out unless you give it gas. It had a code for a bad TPS before I took it all apart. I'm thinking the TPS needs to be either recalibrated or replaced. Is there a walkthrough for dummies on recalibrating them? If anyone could help me there that would be super.

I also broke a vacuum hose connector off of something. I noticed I had a vacuum line disconnected under the intake manifold above that vacuum cylinder thing and while I was rummaging around under it trying to figure out where it connected, the hose just fell off in my hand with the connector still plugged into it. I took a pic of it.

If anyone knows where this goes PLEASE help a brother out. Also would this affect idle or cause a missfire at idle? Anyway, here are some more pics of the mostly completed BHG job for those who wanted to see.
