need help wiring my temp guage!

i bought this guage used and the guy said it has everything i need to install it, i jsut need some wiring..... anyhow. i dont have any directions for it so i dont knwo how to install it.

i have one sensor that goes on a hose somewhere (i dont know where)

and the guage has 4 wires. green black red and orange. im guessing black is ground and green shoudl screw into the top of the sensor thing. and one should power the guage and the other one the lighting on it... but im not positive. help please.

Sounds right for the gauge wiring. The sensor should be a ground and connected to the gauge green.

Depends on the size of the threads. There may be a spot on the thermostat housing that you can tap for the sensor. IMO that's how I would do it.. Those hose fittings are not going to be as accurate because it is in front of the thermostat.

Green is most likely the lighting. You can test it. As for the sensor I'd recommend getting a brass bushing to install it where the stock gauge sensor is in the T stat housing. You can get the bushing from summit.

That looks like a prosport gauge.. you also have a white wire and I think the white and orange are lighting.. Who makes that gauge?

yeah it is a prosport guage and yes there is a white wire. i thought the white was my 12v power?

how innacurate will it be if i just run the temp sensor in the middle of the upper rad hose? because i wanted to get this thign goign tonight and i dont have tiem to send away for parts before the rain comes!! haha thanks guys

hey i got that gauge and now i need to get that damn adapter didnt know which one but i guess the red one now hahah ... might look into that bushing where the stock T housein is at... i ask for help but i guess cause im a new-b noone replied

Q: I lost my instructions how do I wire the performance Series gauge?
A: Black –Ground
Red - 12v ign. power-meaning power when the ignition is on.
White- 12v ign. power
Orange-Headlight switch.
Green - Sender
The above/below wiring will result in white during the day and color (amber or Green) at night.

Sorry I didn't get to you last night but putting the sensor in the upper hose will only give you radiator coolant temp. IMO I wouldn't use the hose fitting but hey you already have it. It might be better to use that in the bottom hose. :dunno:

really i just need to see if my temp is getting to hot or if it is spiking. will i still be able to see this if i use the fitting for the upper radiator hose?

No.. The issue could be if your thermostat doesn't open. If that sensor is pre thermostat then.. well there you have it.

so i figured before i chopped up my hose that i would check to make sure the sender worked.

i heated up some water and dropped the sensor in. i have the green wire wired right to the top of the sensor. the water was hot hot and nothing registered ont eh guage. i left it in a for a few minutes and then gave up.

whats the deal???? why woudlnt it work?

Did you drop the entire sensor in the water? Probably only safe for the thermocouple to be immersed...

Are you sure all the connections on the gauge are correct and fully secured?

i only submerged it enough to get the thermocouple wet, not the rest of the sensor. and all my other wires are secure, the guage turns on with the key and does its little full range of motion thing when it first turns on with no problems.

maybe i hooked the wire up wrong? it just just smashed it between the two nuts on the top of the sensor

That is strange...

Either it wasn't hot enough to register, the wiring is bad, or the gauge or sender are faulty

Are you POSITIVE the sensor wire is secured correctly and all the way, making good contact? Double check even if you are.

lol I know that doesn't narrow it down much, but it's really hard to say from here, you might want to give prosport a call

i looked on there website and it looks like there is two wires coming from the sensor.... i only have one. maybe that is the problem?
