Cool now when you say the wideband runs through the maft does that mean I will not need the wideband controller or the gauge itself? Sorry I am still in the learning process of tuning.

OK so here is what i got so far on my list from

driftmotion:
turbo kit, 700cc injector, zt-2 wideband controller totaling:2800

suprasport:
maft pro kit total: 750

will find the intercooler kit on ebay as mentioned, maybe a fuel pump as well (if they are any good) Have a few questions about the maft though if anyone knows. Is there any other place to get it other than suprasport? and on there site it offers it with the innovate xd-16, is that just the gauge or the controller? And from driftmotion is the zt-2 the correct controller or is there a different one i am missing? And what is the compressor outlet size on there turbo that way i have an idea of what ic piping size to look for? thanks and if i have forgot something please chime in or if you got any other suggestions that may save some money let me know

EDIT: One more thing about the driftmotion turbo kit, i was looking at there pics they have and it looks like the charge pipe runs right into the headlight? and if you were to turn it down you will run into the power steering crap and radiator hose? please correct me if i am wrong? I know its gonna be custom ic piping but am i gonna have to relocate any of that as well? I believe Grim said to use the stock fender hole which leads to the intake but i think the main problem i am gonna have is turbo to ic? SHIT!

I was going to suggest something other than the Zeitronics, but in looking at the specs, it appears to be a quite capable unit. If I wasn't already running the AEM, I'd probably consider it.

Not to knock Suprasport, (as I have no personal experience with them) but from reading the shop reviews. it sounds like several people have experienced inconsistent customer service from them. However, many of the reviews are also positive. I think that you can purchase the unit directly from the manufacturer.

Aaron of Driftmotion is actually the guy that talked me out of the MAFT, not that he meant to. He described to me the proverbial "bird's nest" of wiring that resulted from all the different piggyback components, and stated that he had a hard time getting the car to run the same way consistently. I think he's using the Stinger EMS currently.

That's not to say that the MAFT doesn't work as advertised. All of our vehicles are different.

You should go to the manufacturer website if you have questions regarding what comes with the kit.

I don't know about the Driftmotion IC piping kit because I didn't buy it. All I can tell you is that the IC piping kit I purchased worked out very well for me. The mandrel bends were right where they were supposed to be and the upper IC pipe goes through the stock location in the inner fender. I am NOT a master fabricator (though I have my creative moments). All I have is a chop saw from Harbor Freight, and I used it to trim the charge pipe shorter and remove the angle at the end. I could have probably just as easily done it with a hacksaw. I think the kits from driftmotion are universal fit kits, and may require a bit more work. It seems to me that anything can be accomplished with enough couplers and clamps, but each one is a potential boost leak.

I have actually been emailing aaron at driftmotion. Had told me the same thing about the maft system as well in his his car, and i think he said he is running the Vipec sytsem? He didnt knock the maft at all said it is a good unit but can only do so much, he told me he can get me a good deal on the aem unit also along with the same kit you used from cx racing. saves about ten bucks on the ic kit, but figure if i can get all from one place then might as well. And he know exacty what ill nee to mount that kit to there 60-1 kit. I am waiting to hear back from him hopefully hell have a list what ill need. since i wont be driving the car the car a whole lot at this time i am thinking Ill do turbo, aem, and ic kit to start, is it possible that if i absolutely needed to drive the car that i could run a speed density setup on the stock fuel system, stock pump and injectors? with low boost? I do not plan on hot rodding the car around til all is said and done from engine back with a good tune. But is there an aem base map for that setup, or is based around the bigger injectors and such?

One other thing Aaron also asked me, for aem purpose, whether my car was an early 89 or late 89, with grey or yellow ecu plugs? I thought all 89 were grey? I am almost positive mine is grey, but it is an early 89 (04/89) does my production date make a difference on the ems? I thought it was just 89-92, or 87-88?

Aaron didn't knock the MAFT when I spoke to him either, but I knew after that conversation that I eventually wanted to go standalone.

You can convert to speed density using the stock pump and injectors. Speed density based tuning doesn't demand any more fuel than the MAF/AFM based tuning. It is my understanding that the AEM software has a wizard will allow you to create a base map using whatever injectors you want/have.

does my production date make a difference on the ems?
Usually cars manufactured in or after October are considered to be part of the next model year. For instance, 10/87 might be considered to be a 1988 year model. It wouldn't be that difficult to drop the glove box and look at the ECU connectors. Someone else might have an easier way to check, but for the kind of money you'll be spending on the EMS I'd want to see for myself.

Yeah i know about the model year and stuff and i believe it is around june of the year that they bump it to the next year, atleast every new car i work on has been that way. I have a straight early 89, but didnt know why he was asking the, everything i have read about the ems designates 89-92 with no specifics on when in 89 it was built. it is grey plug just looked a bit ago. I was just reading on aem power about all the parameters and such that you can change. so i still think i am gonna start there, turbo ic kit and aem, junkyard it for the sensors for speed density and slowly get the other components when finances allow. All the while not driving the car like i stole it if driven at all.

Are you running speed on you aem? I think thats where i might confused is pinning out the wires correctly, i have not been able to find info on exaclty where they are ran on the ecu connector, as well signal, ground and ref...... so if you got any of that kind of useful info you should shoot it my way. anyone

Ok so i have been tossing around more ideas of what i wanna do, still focused on the dm 60-1 kit, just like the idea of a better flowing system. As far as standalone or piggyback still debating. What is the max limit i can push on the stock injectors? Would i run into any problems running the dm kit, with aem still using afm and stock injectors for now? Or should i do the turbo, intercooler, afpr, and maft with stock injectors? One of the main reasons i am planning on going speed density is less components and the vented bov, unless an aftermarket recirc is still possible with these upgrades. give me some more info people thanks

Most people go with the 550's because they work well with the Lexus AFM. I hit "fuel cut" (or ignition cut, as I like to call it) a lot before the Lexus AFM. This was on the stock CT26 with a full 3" exhaust. I think you can likely extract quite a bit of power from the stock 440's. I've never tried it, but there are some very reputable people here that say so. Just use the SAFC to add fuel (rather than taking it away, as I have to do with my 700's) Aftermarket BOV worked okay vented, except when the car was cold. I have an HKS recirc fitting, but find it hard to get it routed back to the accordian hose, mostly because of where the BOV is mounted in relation to the hose. And a wideband is a necessity if you're going to do any modification to the stock intake or fuel system, especially in this case where you're more likely to run lean than rich.

(BTW - I swear to GOD that I will send you those pics tomorrow. It's been a rough couple of weeks.)

Bzzz! Wrong. By adding fuel with a S-AFC you will lower fuel cut and hit it before a 60-1 even really spools up. Part of the entire point of using a "too large" injector is the ability to raise cut by decreasing signal with the piggyback.

89supra7mgte -- attempting to half ass this will leave you with two things: Less money and a broken car.

Damn. Didn't think about that. Can I please retract my previous statement?? My apologies for providing un-researched advice.

The really bad thing is, I've read through most of "The Ask DreamerTheresa and/or SupraCentral Anything Thread" already, including that particular post.

Ok i got ya sc, and by the way that thread is pretty awesome i am gonna have to finish readin and get on that. Ok so back to the car. I am not gonna be half assing the car, atleast i dont want to. I m tryin to get the most expensive items out of the way first. that being the turbo and management system , (still not sure which one i want yet) the car is not a dd, and will only be driven few days a week when done. I found an ems kit with iat map and wideband for 2100 shipped, what would be your best suggestion SC on standalone or piggyback? I know alot of people ask for what hp goals you are going for, well i am not sure yet on where it will be? Any ideas?

Ok so still waiting on my funding to show up, but now ran into some financials so my budget is slightly lower now, some of the parts are gonna have to wait which sucks. anyways i wanna know what all would be rec as far as supporting mods to use the dm 60-1 kit, with a recirc bov? I know i will be needin the ic kit (given) but can i still run this without any piggybacks, given i keep fuel system stock for the time being? in essence the only thing that will be changed from stock is ic and turbo setup, with stock boost level, other anyone has other opinions on it? I do plan to go maftpro along with mods to use its full potential. Any and help advice will help alot thanks

thats what i was kinda figuring, but my turbo is shot and if i am gonna replace i am gonna upgrade... i am trying to work in the fuel system right now actually. where do you think fuel cut what happen on just that system? would it be possible to do the turbo, ic, 550s, lex, afpr, and safc of some sort? Or could i do turbo, ic, maft pro, and turn the boost down, until all the components are installed? BTW the car is not gonna be driven hard or at all until finished, just wanna make sure that what i do will still leave it runable if i absolutely need to use it (for transport not sport)

I hesitate to post a response here, because obviously I am NOT an expert. But, perhaps I can offer some helpful advice based on personal experience.

If you are just trying to keep your ride on the road, you could have the stock CT26 turbo rebuilt. Or find a good used one. That's your best option for not getting in over your head right now. I have yet to complete any project on this particular car under budget. Honda Accord, yes. Hachiroku, maybe. Supra, NO. A stock/rebuilt turbo, 3" downpipe, 550cc injectors, Walbro 255, AFPR, and a Lexus AFM would be a huge improvement over stock, and would also put you right where you need to be to do the big turbo at a later time. Adding an AFC Neo or a MAFT would be even better.

As soon as you bolt on a big turbo, you're gonna have all new worries, like clutch, transmission, etc. I see the same questions being asked over and over here, and the only real answer is, you can't afford to cut corners and still expect to have any amount of reliability or consistency. If you get all of the things listed above, it will be a huge improvement, and you can still save up for the Driftmotion kit and better intercooler. Heck, nothing says that you can't adapt the stock FMIC to work with any setup, just get better piping to replace that plastic crap. Hope this helps.

The car isnt a dd so the only time i will be driving it during the project is in an absolute emergency given my truck and bike are both broken and someone is dying or having a baby. i feel ya on the upgrading of trans and clutch and so on. I think the weakest point will be the clutch, it not stock but unaware of rating (po installed), the trans is in good standing for up to 550hp, along with driveshaft (1 piece) rearend is 3.73 lsd not sure of what its rating is?

Ok so tell me if this setup would be good and if i am missing anything: DM kit, ic kit, maft pro kit (speed density conversion) 550s, afpr kit, wideband and tune. I do believe that should also keep me in good standing with any future upgrades, where standalone is not required correct?

Ok so what management system would you guys rec for my build, with the turbo kit, i/c, uprgraded fuel system and injectors, lex? I guess i am asking what do i need to use at minimum, maft pro, safc etc.....
