My car is a JZA70 from Japan and from factory it does not have a clutch switch. Initially I was just going to wire in the 2step to the clutch switch but that option is not really available. Any ideas on how I should setup the 2 step?

Also for those of you with 2step how did you set up the switch.

Thanks

Stephen

Seriously no clutch switch? So you can start the car without pushing the clutch in?
Is there a spot on the pedal to mount a switch? You could just grab one off another Toyota from the junkyard.

Correct the car starts without pushing the clutch in. I guess I will have to look for a clutch switch but the problem is there are only a few if any supras at any junkyard near me.

Doesn't necessarily have to be a Supra. Or even a Toyota for that matter, so long as the threads match (do you have the threaded hole?). You could also just get a switch from Radio Shack, but the threads wouldn't match. You could probably make it work though.

Your right I guess any sort of push style switch would work in this situation.

My car starts without pushing in the Clutch but for a whole different reason. The previous owner took out the clutch start relay in the kick panel and replaced it with a #8 cable with two plugs on the end. Works fine I just havent got around to replacing it.

What is another good place to put a switch for the 2 step or is the clutch switch the most convenient one?

Well you can put it anywhere you want, but when you launch, are you going to want to have to reach for a switch?

so THAT'S why you wanted a clutch switch...

What I did, was just got a 2-step with a speed sensor. That way, it deactivates when I go over 10km/h. No clutch switch needed :)

Well that is my other option but my EMS has the option for a 2step or antilag so I would like to try that system before buying another system. The only problem with the clutch switch is that it will activate everytime I hit the clutch so power shifting is not an option. I think I am going to put a switch on my steeringwheel and just activate it with my thumb. Seems pretty simple and I dont have to run it all the time just when I want it.

I wish it triggered via the speed signal but it is an input that is switched to run either off or on. So I decided today just to put a switch by the shifter and have my finger on it to turn it on and off. I know it may not be the nicest system but if I really like the launch control I will go to a better system anyways.

See page 149 of the AEMPro User's Guide:

2Step Rev Limiter Installation without a clutch switch
This installation does not require a clutch switch input, i.e.: no wiring! This strategy
will work as long as the vehicle speed sensor (VSS) is still being used.
First, set the 2Step rev limiter up as normal referring to the instructions above. Next,
go to:
· Setup | Rev Limiters | 2Step Rev Limiter | Options - 2Step Rev Limit
· Set the option 2Step Input to Switch is Always ON.
· Set the option 2Step OK Below VSS to the lowest speed your particular VSS will
read. To figure this out, view the parameter Vehicle Speed and drive at low
speeds to find the VSS gear resolution (2Step OK Below VSS should match the
option VSS Minimum Display).

I wouldnt suggest you run it to a speed sensor, unless you ALWAYS want it on. A clutch switch will mount with your pedal brackets, just get one from a supra being parted out or something, thread it in, and you have two wires to play with. Wire an activation switch to operate whenever you want and done. When you power shift it will never interfere unless you miss a shift. Check your setup to be sure, it may also use a vss as another signal to operate under a certain speed. That way it operates when you want it, and works perfectly.

You mean ALWAYs on, under the pre-determined speed. Mine kicks off over 6mph. I've never had it interfere with any of my driving in the last few years.

The ONLY thing I can't do is rev above 5000 while stopped. Funny, It's never been an issue.

you could always hook it up to the handbrake light.... then when you stage, you lift the handle and drop it as you launch...

your clutch pedal will have provision for a switch too, as the JZA70's came out with cruise control as an option, so the fitting will be there even if the switch isn't...

Well I ended up just putting a switch right beside the shifter. That way its easy to access and I can use the 2 step whenever I want. The only problem is that the 2step is not activating when I turn the switch on. The wiring isn't rocket science either. Its a 12V to one end of the switch and the input wire on the other end.....
