I bought a NAPA Gold oil filter today and realized that the fluted canister does not fit my trusty oil filter cap wrench that has fit every other filter brand for the 7M. Any recommendations?

Actually I do use a cap wrench to put it on because I cannot get my hand or a strap wrench up in the stock GTE location under the turbo. My old cap wrench has a red line that I use to turn it 3/4 turn after contact.

I changed the oil in my chevy 1500 for the first time today. When you take the filter off it dumps oil right on the front diff U joint. Why do manufacturers put the oil filters in such rediculous locations? I dont get it.:nono:

Return it and get a different brand filter, that's what I do now!

(I think Mobil-1 filters work well with cap wrenches)

Mobil 1 filters are overpriced for what they are, the napa gold/wix is great.

On a side note, never had an issue getting to my oil filter. Seems like everyone bitches about it on the GTE and it's NOT hard.

If you are having trouble, try pulling the lower IC hose. Getting to it thru that way is easier for myself.

I always had problems with the Toyota filter wrench slipping on the filters. Then I used only Toyota filters. But recently the last Toyota filter I bought slips in the wrench.

Napa Gold filters are one of the better filters out there. I prefer to use these on all my vehicles.

You can fit a wrench in there:aigo:? I have to have one of my friends bare hand it on but then again I'm a freak of nature I guess (catchers mit hands lol).

Funny side note. I watched a guy screw one on by hand before dynoing and forgot about the other gasket on there....... he ran doubled gaskets on accident. Wow what a mess!

Thanks for the ideas. I've been using a cap wrench with a long extension for years. I think I'll just go back to using the Toyota filters, even if they are not the best.

You'd sacrifice the health of your engine oil by using an inferior filter just because you can't use your old method for removing the better filter?

I'd find a way to get the better filter on/off before I used a crappy filter... Obviously people can handle getting the napa gold/wix filter on/off as they are commonly used. The filter shouldn't be on that tight o ever really cause a problem anyways.
