IJ, what do you mean by "sunk" the valve? Cut the valve seat?

Usually by this stage it's just a couple of thou lapped by hand, I machine cut everything to as close to identical as possible then Lap or Tip to get the exact clearences required.

The major PITA with shimless is non adjustable, as the engine wears the valves will sink and close down the lash so I add a couple of thou to spec to stretch out the inevitable, as far as I know my head is still fine on Crisp's engine and has many miles on it!

14psi antilag on the car was fine. Did it all the time, I think once it was higher a big enough backfire relaxed the heavy duty springs I have, and with 272s it just said get get out of my house.
Note to self: keep the anti-lag pressure to a minimum. Two-step will have the same effect, correct? Honestly don't know which the AEM is equipped with...

Usually it is a fuel cut for two step iirc. Antilag does a spark cut, that's why you get the explosion tht can backfeed.

I also have a high pressure ratio. 3:1 in my manifold. So also could be bad, that's why I went with the .81ar housing

te72: you brought up the AEM, do you have an AEM or did Albert switch over to one? I thought he had an EMU.

IJ.: Well, never mind. I was going to ask why you preferred shimless buckets over underbucket shims, but I guess if you get it right the first time you won't be touching it for a few years so it's not that big of a deal.

Brad(te72) is on aem v2 iirc

I'm on proefi.

Both have a two-step and antilag. Both you can change fuel cut or spark cut as the limiter type

Shimless is lighter and you won't spit a shim on rev or antilag etc etc.

You you have shims, it is easier to do valve clearance, shimless the cams have to come out and they are twice as much.

Shimless is like $13ish for a bucket
Shims are like $7ish each

As Albert mentioned lighter and no chance of spitting a shim, I had my limiter set to 8300 and it saw it every single time I drove it :D

Nothing quite sounds like a 7M above 8000 it's a very distinctive noise!

It's possible to spit a shim with underbucket shims? Didn't know that!

Hoping to wind mine up to 8k this summer one way or another, the shims were the only thing I didn't want to chance. Even at 8k the rods aren't traveling fast enough to fail with the stock stroke, I'm kind of excited ha.

Albert: proefi, gotcha. Now we're getting off topic, I apologize haha, why did you switch over out of curiosity?

Underbucket will still have a thin shim on top so yes it's possible, the cam once over xx size tries to wipe the shim off the top of the bucket, that + any valve bounce = bye bye shim and :(

Dang it.. shimless(or technically shin under bucket) can still suffer the same problem with a bucket shim. pneumatic valve springs... if only...

Really too bad you didn't record any audio samples for our pleasure...

Not real sure if I have V1 or V2. Bought it about 3 years ago IIRC, the serial number starts with 1100-xxxx on one of the boxes, and 23xx-xxxx on the other box. Gonna sound like a real idiot, but I honestly don't know what I have sitting in that box. Friend of mine that did my head and swap (and is doing the widebody) told me it was a good deal, and to snag it, so I did. It's sat in my closet since, but that should change sooner than later. ;)

Thanks for the info on the rev limit setups, I didn't know it had both. I might want to set up the anti-lag simply to pop off at people who are following a little too close...

Unless your name is Tucker... Apparently he had hell getting that engine to work. Shame too, sounded awesome on paper.

I'm not saying this had anything to do with why it happened..

But Albert is a badass and knows how to use his supra
