Hi all Just spent a week with my son brainstorming and working on the supra, got as far as bottom end build up and head on, mocked up the timing belt for pics. lots of parts showed up while he was here so it was just like christmas opening all the toys.
Spent a couple of days sorting through a plan on where we want to go with this project, Since he is off to Wales in 2 weeks and will only have a month off this summer we decided to do this up right. Interior and paint etc. Ready next year. Buddy of mine is going to redo the seats with the supra logo. He did my 68 satellite interior. (very nice)
We are going to strip the interior and engine bay next time he is up.:1zhelp: Then send off to paint, He has some body mod add ons.
The engine build was fun, he learnt lots and I tried to keep my hands off and let him do most of the work himself. (His quote of the week, “Ya know dad, I should just be the one that shops and pay for the parts, this engine building is interesting but the parts washing sucks” :biglaugh: Here kid, have a beer and keep scrubbing.
I have the pictures almost sorted and I have a lot of information to go with them , just need to figure out how to post them with all the relevant info.
We also have to start doing our home work on the electronic side of things. Lots of options out there.
Questions
What is the take on a Boss stage 4 turbo?
Does anyone know where to get all the little rubber hoses and pipes for the engine, :1zhelp: a lot are cracked and hard. Send a thread if you know of one.
Have tried to get a hold of suprasport several times to talk about shipping to Canada with no luck, any ideas.(emails and messages)
Any help greatly appreciated.

I don't advise getting the FCD as you can blow up the motor very quickly if you don't pay attention to your A/F's with the FCD bypassing TCCS built in fuel cut. I would definitely add a Wide Band sensor to that list of parts with some type of metering system to see what your A/F are (LC-1 wideband with an XD-16 monitor gauge).

As far as the spearco intercooler goes, you can the exact replica from places like this one: http://store.driftmotion.com/productdetails.php?sid=145f9473bd1cf0&product_id_int=287
or a slightly larger one like this one: http://store.driftmotion.com/productdetails.php?sid=145f9473bd1cf0&product_id_int=323

I have the Cooleze megamouth down pipe, test pipe, and turbo inlet pipe. My cousin has the full hardpipe kit from him too, but you can definitely make your own even better and cheaper than Greg's intercooler kit ;).

I am also looking into getting the BOSS turbo, what trim are you thinking of getting? I was wanting the Stage 5 with like a 61 trim with the GTS cover (flows more air through it), but I noticed that he doesn't offer the GTS cover on the stage 5 until it's a 66 trim, but he will do the 61 trim and the GTS cover in the stage 4. I may be able to work something out with him ;).

Hi I'm Back hopefully these picture will show I have been busy. Changed jobs and everything. I'm back working in the oil patch. If you see mom don't tell her, she still thinks I'm playing the piano in a whorehouse.:sarcasm:
Anyway. hope these pictures will upload. Trying to figure out how to upload pictures was a chore. If this works I will send some more pics and explain whatwe are up to so far.
I have done a lot of the powder coating my self.
Now that I figured the upload thing I will send some pics of the build and some tricks I learned along the way.
Stay tuned

You need an oil t-stat bad.

Kiss your powdercoated heat shields goodbye :(

Who ceramic coated the intake manifold? jdub?

Looks good!

Shields are not powdered coated, Used extreme high temp paint.

Pipes are ceramic coated, intake was powdercoated by myself.

You'll find a lot of varying opinions, but I would not use the FAL fan setup. I'd stick with a good Al radiator and clutch fan. I can't back that up with any real scientific data, but I have tried using electric before and didn't like it very much. I was using an Autometer coolant temp gauge and the temps remained much more stable using the stock fan. A/C cooled much better for me as well.

Other people will have other opinions, but that's just mine.

Thanks for the tip. Will take it under advisement. I have used electrics on my truck when I had a 383 stroker in it and the cooling worked great but the thermostat set up sucked. I plan on using the stock temp system (sending unit) to trigger a solenoid. If it doesn't work. I kept all the parts to go back to stock. It's generally cool in Albetra so we will see.

The kid bought a gasket set off Eay
This is what happens when you buy an ebay gasket set.

100_4438.jpg
Notice where the gasket sits in relationship to the bore at one end.

Notice where the gasket sits in relationship to the bore at the other end.
Not even close. Anyone got a head gasket stretcher?

100_4439.jpg
Note the relationship of the head bolt holes compared to the block.
Again, not even close.

This is what one does with said gasket.
100_4443.jpg
Notice the MHG underneath which fit perfectly.

Moral of this story. Buy cheap get cheap. We replaced the whole gasket set with felpro stuff.
Does make one wonder why guys get a lot of head gasket leaks..

More tech coming.

Bye-Bye Ebay HG :(.

Your powdercoating looks good. Looks almost like my ceramic coated intak manifold ;).

I don't think the painted heat sheilds will stay that way for long. Mine flaked off and that was with 2000 degree paint.

What type/Brand of paint did you use?? Curious now cause I'm about to do the same.
