What do you mean by that? LOL I wonder where my build falls in your ranking system. It just jumped out at me, sorry.:icon_bigg

Nice build Supaflyride. What a lucky kid you have. Are you building two, one for each twin? ;)

i just meant that instead of flooding the build section with little stuff like bolt ons and tailight mods he's going the road less traveled and actually building his engine, the shaving the valve stem thing was what stuck out with me and shaving his pistons and deck himself. Not saying we dont have any its just been a bit since i came upon another real build. not putting anyone down.:icon_razz Your build DEFINATLY qualifies. I miss IJ's though

Hi and welcome to SM!!

You may want to think about that Lex AFM. if you are going with 550 injectors and a FPR already add the Lex and some fuel management. Your going so far as it is this seems like a small step. If you go with just the 550's and keep the 7mGTE AFM your going to run rich. Just a thought.

Sounds like a great rebuild.

Hello, and welcome
Your son is very lucky indeed. He didn't own a Skyline by any chance did he?
I lived in Peace River for half a year in 05, while working at the Shell In-Situ Plant. It's a nice little town but that skyline really seemed out of place:naughty: .

I'd also be interested to know where you got that jdm engine. I'm moving to Edmonton soon and I'll be needing one later in the year. I bought one from a company in Vancouver. It was in good shape (or so I though) but the valves were siezed open due heavy varnish from bad fuel. When I pulled the head I found some big ass cracks in the block. I geuss I lost the jdm gamble:dunno:

You should check out Driftmotion when it comes time to plumb that T04. There universal piping kits are pretty nice, and they have a pretty good selection of intercoolers as well. They're in the vendor section of this site but to see the purdy pictures you must go herehttp://store.driftmotion.com/index.php?sid=145b02ef5c28cc They (BigAaron) were good to deal with.
Titan motorsports so far has also been very good with shipping to me in Canada.
I'll keep an eye out for your build up in the Supra Build up/Gallery section
It's a sub-forum in General Discussion. (where stuff like this goes)

That sucks and I know the pain. Been there done that when I was young. Nowdays won't put a motor in any of my rides with out freshening the motor just for that reason.

Sorry no adoptions in the cards. My son is a twin and they are both out of the house and I like it that way. BTW he does the dirty work (washing engine bays and underneath stuff)

Ah, with age usually comes stability, and with stability comes some extra money. Three things which I do not have, and wish I did. I tried my best; tore down all the periferals and was very meticulous that it would idle right before I took it down the road for the first time. Engine was just a POS, bad bearing in the 6th, that's it though I hope, I still have yet to tear it down. Keep us updated! And again, Welcome to the forums!

Instead of milling the pistons, buy a thicker MLS headgasket. The stock one is 1.37mm, so add to that whatever you removed from the head and deck.

not 100% sure if I will mill the pistons. I only need .006 of an inch (.1524 mm) I already have a MHG from greedy 1.4 mm or .0551 inches. Since I figure a MHG has less squish than stock and I am using ARP Studs it probably may be a mute point. Since these pistons are 0 deck and if I stick up .006 i will end up with .049 piston to head clearance. It will bump up the compression slightly. So the jury is still out. My guess is i will pre assemble look at it, cc the head and piston, do the math for compression and then decide.

Welcome to the forum! I'm in the opposite situation...my son has little interest in working on cars. :3d_frown:

If you haven't already, get a Toyota Repair & Service Manual (TRSM)...it's a must have when working on this car. Here's a site for the online version + a lot more:
http://www.cygnusx1.net/supra/techtips.aspx

There's also a lot of info in the Reference Section on this site. The Supra has a lot of "quirks" that's makes working on it frustrating at times. I can see from your orginal post, you know how to ask a question...if you run into problems, post it with as much detail as possible and you'll get the help. ;)

Thanks. Printed it out 3 months ago. Got the info from this site. Between this forum, the manual and the web i have gotten a wealth of info. sometimes too much that decision making is hard. I may rely on all of you when we need to pick the expensive stuff.

Thanks, Looking for a blue center counsul for an 89 if ya got one in you back pocket. Been to Fort St John many many times in my drag racing years. Used to haul the timing system back and forth to Peace River until I set them up with their own system..

molokai.. get off plane, goto store, buy a kitchen knife, keep in a bag with receipt and carry it hiking with you..lotta drugs and poverty on molokai so jus be careful.. make it home safe and then ADOPT ME[i'm probably older than you but i dont care, you're a better machinist/mechanic than me]...your work sounds tool and die meticulous, dude.

interisland to kauai [slow pace like molokai but safer] is about 30 bucks now but from molokai might be a surchage cuz it's pretty remote... island air flies lower and better view on the props..[i used to live in the pacific as a teenager, my friends live on oahu/maui/big island].

ur boy's in india? that sounds cool.. i just pulled my perfect kid out of college yesterday after she lost her $50,000 scholarship for being too damn lazy to go to class...putting her ass to work at UPS on third shift and charging her rent starting next week...and hoping she straightens up.

great work on the car, can't wait to read about it when you dyno.

Will YOU be my daddy? I want a free ride into college... It seems to me that the people who actually WANT to go to college have to do it the hard way and the people that DON'T wanna go to college get it handed to them. Lifes not fair.. Meh.

Well I am back from holidays, Hawaii was great, Waiting on the rest of the parts to start building the engine. Will be posting some picks of the parts and the build up. Timing is good because my son should be home from India to help put the motor together. I got the head all assembledand tweaked. They can be a real pain to get the clearances just right.
