my slow 2j vs solstice

Was surprised as the little car pulled on the 89. My 89 is basic stock 2jz stock twins/auto tranny. I thought these cars where like a 2.0 and just a showey roadster. I did some research and in 07 the came out with a turbo version/GXP 260hp and 260tq for a 2800 lb. car is probably a lot of fun. Noah was giving me a hard time and I felt bad.:3d_frown:

I test drove a saturn sky redline just for fun (same exact driveline/chassis as the gxp) and it was really fast!

It was an auto, but it pulled really hard. But I would think the 2j would take it..

I thought so also. math is pretty simple jdm 2jz is 280hp on a 3600lb car vs 260 on a 2800lb car. It's all good though as the 2j car is very reliable and don't really want to mess with something that isn't broke.

George, it just so happens that on my way home from watching UFC tonight i was behind a Sky Roadster....now i dont know if those are Turbo or not but he got a bit froggy and decided he wanted to pull away from me but all it took was a downshift into 3rd and I took it to 5500 rpm and he was atleast 5 cars behind me.....at the light I was in the middle lane and he was revving his motor in the left lane and to make things more interesting an 07 vette pulled up to my right....I didn't even launch and was ahead of that damn roadster in every gear. (but behind the vette :icon_mad: not for long though :evil2 I thought of you and your Solstice experience and had to share..... I heard that the solstice and the roadster are practically the same car....no?!

I thought basically same thing and that they didn't have much of a powerplant. I did some research and the sky is also supposed to get same turbo motor. I'm pretty sure you ran a stock sky. After some research the turbo solstice is a hair slower than a mustang gt, 350z in 0-60.

As Noah told me my 2 1/2 inch exhaust is killing me, also a tired tranny doesn't help. It does eat me up to have the mighty 2j and not being able to take full advantage of it. :3d_frown:

So what happened with the vette? what year/model?

Val I ran against a stock 350z in austin and pulled 1 car on him. It's not slow by any means. The stock sky is running 177hp.

Anyone else out there run against one of these. 0-60 in 5.5 is not blistering but very respectable. Mustang gt is supposed to be 0-60 in 5.1

I raced a saturn sky redline before... from a 40 mph roll he had no shot. I let off when my speedo said 145 and he was very far behind.

I talked to the guy before we raced and afterwards. The car might of been a little slower as he just bought it brand new that day. He was saying stock it was pushing 18 psi boost.

Nice looking car but I didn't think it was that fast. But then again I was also pushing 18 psi boost on a 1jz single. What car is pretty fast that pontiac has is the GTO. That gave me a fun little run.

Its ok, as soon as you go single on that 2J i am pretty sure there will be some turbo Solostice's that will be caught off guard...:evil2:
07 C6 vette....i think he just put the pedal to the floor and and didn't get off of it......in any case, i was probably 3 cars behind him @ 90mph from a dig. I was running 12psi on the stock CT. When i finally caught up, i told him that i can't compete on the stock turbo.

I generally never race from a dig so the 0-60 times are a non-factor. I usually try to get them from a roll and usually on the highway:evil2: I pull on new and old Mustang GT, but have not raced a 350Z yet. Those HP number on the SKY is WHP though....so I think that you lost to that damn solstice because of those restrictions you mentioned.

GTO is what around 400hp. Single 1jz@18psi should be able to kick some tail. Like I said in title my slow 2j for now it's gonna have to stay that way.

Yeah the stock GTO is 400hp to the crank, but doesn't take much to wake up that 6.0 liter v8. One of my buddies just built one with over 600 hp to the wheels with minimal mods. IMO too much power for the car.

When i raced the GTO i was talking about, he had me off the line up to about 50 then i caught up and passed him. I don't know what he had done to his car becuase the guy just let off when he knew he was beat and turned off quickly.

What makes them so bad ass is the displacement. Can never beat displacement.

Hey, at least you didn't get beat by a neon. I got beat in my stock 91, starting from a really fast roll of 70 mph. He didn't pull away as fast as I thought he would. We did 2 runs. A little of this, little of that, and perhaps my 90 will make amends. Ok, I KNOW it will make amends
