How long can you baby drive rod knock?

i hear rough knocking sometimes and sometimes it revvs smooth as can be...

i dont know what to think and i was tempted to sell her just because i hate the thought of rod knock.

well when i go cold start...let it run for a bit...oil pressure rises... then revv through the 2500-300 area, and mess around in that RPM level for a bit...i hear/feel nothing.

but if i go to the store after some driving...the motor/something feels rough...like a knocking.

so every day when i come home and the engine has a chance to get hot i worry that its going to get rod knock...or get worse.

but like you said...how could it only do it half the time? unless the oil pressure has something to do with it.

i have NO knock at idle... only a funny sound when i start up sometimes and that doesnt even sound like the motor.

i'll be stethiscoping it this week.... just bought one.

Well, I think you find yourself faced with the same question alot of us have asked numerous times. Why am I fixing this??? I spent 3k for it so the engine could crap out so I can spend 5k to rebuild it and make it the 6 million dollar car. Not gonna happen dude, stop inhalling the petro fumes.

Supra is a way of life. If the fires too hot, get out of the kitchen. Other than that dwy up your wittle tears and start turning some wrenches. Just like the rest of us. You can't sell it, because you have too much time and money vested into it. JDM engines, when are some of you going to learn????

There is a reason that particular engine is not slinging rubber from the rear of someone elses supra as we speak. For every 2 people I hear say something good about there jdm engine. There are 4 others complaining about them.

Fix it man. Fix it better than you would have ever hoped to then when it blows up again. Atleast you know you did everything you could to fix it.

Personally when I get done with my mkIII..., if it gives me any more guff, I'll park it in the barn and leave the title in the glove incase someone ever takes an interest in it, such as a gear oriented grand child or some shit.

amen!

uhhh...and why would you do that rather than a GTE swap? It would be nice to have information backing this up :)

NA-T is perfectly fine as long as you do it the right way. The people who just go and get a manifold and turbo and bolt it up are the idiots who blow thier engines. The people who do what I just, but also get teh turbo electronics (ECU, Injectors, Ignitor, AFM, etc) are the ones who still arnt smart but at least tried.

Or you can pull the block, rebuild it with a turbo rebuild kit so you have the same compression, etc. Get the various sensors you need, get the gte harness, get the ecu, ignitor, injectors, afm, IC, piping, and everything you need, and then the only difference between your NA-T and a GTE is you dont have oil squirters :)
