When I go to a car show I honestly don't pay that much attention to the most expensive cars. I look for stuff that took skill and inguinity to make, reguardless of how much money was invested. The thing about Duane's is that is has so many parts like that!!!

The cars that look like they just ordered everything that HKS makes for the car and the biggest turbo that would fit in the engine bay don't even raise my eyebrow.

Come on guys, lets not turn this into something petty. Bobiseverywhere was trying to do something nice for the community, something fun, and sure enough it's going to turn into sour grapes, sour grapes SUCK. It is what it is, lets ebjoy it.

Instead of criticizing it, come up with solutions.

How about next year we come up with the MKIII Awards or something. Several different catagories where people get nominated by their fellow members, then the top 5 nominees in each class go to a poll, then we all vote and have an awards night where the winners are all crowned.
I agree with Lance.....I understand the thread starters points, but I think it could be done without making Josh and whoever helped organize it feel it was unfair, it is just for fun right??? They are just trying to do something positive / fun for guys who have taken the time to make thier cars stand out. I think the categories is a good idea, but Im quite sure reign , doc, and the others listed on there were left out because they didnt enter. Especially Bill, I've seen those bay pics, and I'm certain if he entered he would be in, that is bad ass!!! (and remarkably similar to one I've seen somewhere)

The real Supra comment was just childish as Joe stated.

Edit for SH....my campaign manager is FTMFW....you may now stare!

I really think the main problem here is people like me are just to afraid to pot their rides! If more people stepped up, more competition was made wouldn't that solve this issue? BTW i voted for Jay... he really is a SupraHero ;)
edit. holy shit, 2000 posts. I need to start studying for that exam on Friday...

Apologies in advance if this seems ... rough. Further, I didn't have anything to do with the setup for the contest, I just don't have the time.

It's Ride of the Year, folks. This isn't the primary school track meet where everyone wins just for showing up. These are supposed to be the best we have to offer, we're not judging them based on the amount of work or money put into them, we're looking for the car that looks the best, runs the fastest, and puts down the most power.

Duane isn't going to win every year, because if he wins, he wouldn't enter next year - same reason that the same girl isn't the Playmate of the Year every year.

i agree. Also, onejoezee, what i meant by "real" supras are those supras who are on a limited budget and yet are very clean/quick.

I believe that through the ROTY/ROTM competitions, alot of clean cars get unnoticed, the system definently needs to be tweaked.

-Matt
Alot of cars werent noticed? Who's to blame for that? The car owners themselves... Look, like I said, EVERY month that we did this we made a public calling for ANYONE who was interested to please sign up... We arent going to start sending private messages to people personally inviting them... Did you apply? Did he apply? Did she apply? Like I said, there are only so many slots available, and if you dont put yourself forward, then you WONT get noticed... We have ALOT of really really REALLY nice MKIIIs on this forum... We cant make sure every one of them is pushed into the spot light... Like Sean pointed out, Bill *boostedfloto* has a SUPER clean car, beautiful engine bay, but you know what? Bill NEVER applied for ROTM... Maybe his car wasnt running? Maybe he didnt know? Maybe he wasnt ready? Maybe he didnt care? Maybe he just didnt think he could win? Who knows? If the system needs to be tweaked to get more of YOU GUYS to get involved, that has to come from the community, not us... We cant MAKE you guys apply, we can only offer it...

What i was asking was how were the other few roty contestents picked. beacue there were not 6 rotm so far was there???
They were the runner ups and notably mentioned... Some of the ROTM winners won by one or two votes, so we picked the second place/close runners...

One more time, please be nice, keep this civil and constructive... Thanks...

My problem with ROTM is that the matchups were rigged!!!!! :icon_bigg

It was a total conspiracy that I had to go up against lance in the first round!!!

CONSPIRACY I SAY!

Seriously guys, the mods are just trying to add a little fun around here, lets not turn a good thing bad.

I was picked to run for ROTY even though I didn't win ROTM...maybe I'm part of the problem??? I was flattered to say the least, especially when you look at the quality of mk3's built these days. I've always been apart of this community to be just that...part of a community. Not to show off what I've done or plan on doing. Maybe the competition thing is a little too much for some of you guys. If other people appreciate my car I think that's great, but at the end of the day, I built it and will continue to do so for myself.

Take care and thanks
Kevin

RIDE OF THE MONTH

3) We are looking for OVERALL car. Not neccessarily the fastest or prettiest. IE: A completely stock but well maintained car would most likely be picked over a neglected car with 500hp. We will be selecting cars that BEST represent this community.

As stated in the ORIGINAL ROTM thread..............It is NOT about who spent the most or has the highest HP. If it were, what would be the point of letting the N/A's even compete. It is about a car that best represents the community, or the Spirit of the MKIII. If you read Ryan's(da89Soup)story of his car in his acceptance post, you would have seen what true LOVE for the Supra is. He loves his car, and it is a FINE example of a Supra regaurdless of stock or slow, or Gay Ass Blue it is. He is also a very active member of the community, and I feel he fully belongs in this group.

So, I too think categories is a great idea. There is not much chance in hell an N/A will ever win in this current form we have now.

And, I think for those of you spending 80+ grand on an MKIII, you may have chosen the wrong starting point. That's Insane! Beautiful cars........but Insane!

in the greater scheme of things does it even matter? how will your life be affected if you don't win an online "prize" ?

i don't really care cuz i know in 2-3 yrs i'll have the best supra ever, better then you all!!! :) ....and that to me will be the best prize ;)

PS - 90% of my mods / work have been done by a tuner shop, duane does almost everything with his own 2 hands and puts a lot of work into the smallest of details. if we both had spent $80,000 and had identical cars but he did everything himself more or less who do you think is more deserving of the award? everyone will have their own perception of what is fair and what is not, I say who cares :)

My thoughts first reading this thread were a joke, but, what I've done, as what many others need to do, is look at everything from multiple points of views.

We ALL need to understand that this is something that a growing community like Supramania is just now trying...so of course, things won't go as smooth nor will things be perfect...but I think it's WONDERFUL that our Mods, Admins & supporters are even going along with something like this (ROTM, ROTY).

Again, I stand back, thinking about it, and I am just greatful that we are offering something like this.

When it boils down to it, this friendly competition is NOT politics or anything...so people don't just get chosen. If they want to participate with ROTM & ROTY, then more power to them...so with the way ROTY is setup, I think things are going very smoothly. Public vote, EMMACULATE/BEAUTIFUL/GORGEOUS/SEX Supra's (whether it's daily driven or even streetable), I think the voting system is great. :)

Well, I'm definitely on a budget, my main concern at this point in my life is that my step daughter wants to go to college next year, how do I come up with money to pay for that? There sure won't be anything left for a car hobby.

Working on this car is my entertainment, it keeps me sane.:biglaugh: I don't get caught up in chasing the horsepower wars because I'm smart enough to know it takes big $$$ to play that game. God has blessed me with some great talents which really help in putting these things together, but honest story, I've only got $12K in my entire build. It's not about the money, it's about the passion and the desire to have it. Alot of things can be done for little $$$ if you want it bad enough.

well, regardless of all the concern I can say this. While I appreciate cars like Duanes and Rons...to be honest I wouldnt vote for them. I think you under-estimate the human factor. Not everyone has the same tastes in mods or style or any number of factors. I already have my ROTY picked out and my reason is not based on the dollars spent but more the time and personal attention to detail.

So I wouldnt worry. I think the current system is just fine, and be sure to vote!

Thanks for saying that. This is the first go, and I think suggestions for improvement next year are great, but getting all bent out of shape over a contest that's already underway doesn't accomplish much. Arguments are only going to give the mods a good reason to say the hell with doing it again.

That said let me say this...

Thank you mods!!! :bigthumb:
