My new turbo Toyota! And it's not a Supra.

LSD= the suck offroad. At least get a selectable rear locker. You can retrofit the TRD e-locker to the rear housing on that truck, just get the 3'rd member, do a few mods to the actual axle housing, wire it up, and you're golden.

I'd get an ARB air locker, though.

With a LSD, if one tire comes off the ground, you're done. With a locker, both tires (on that axle) will spin the same speed, no matter what. ;)

Edit: here's a helpful link: http://67.122.16.97/carterman/4runner/mods/locker/

When's the show 'n shine? I've been avoiding the ASC lately. In all honestly, I would likely drive my Supra there.

I missed it too, it was on the 31st of august.

Thanks Shaeff... I was contemplating swapping my passive e-locker out of my 4runner in favour of the TRD LSD... but I think I'd rather have a selectable locker than an LSD when batting around the $1000+ price tag.

Rob, something to think about in your diff selection is that the e-locker from toyota only requires some wires... whereas the ARB requires an air source to operate.

I'm going to do the grey wire mod before winter hits.

ARB has an explosed air line that if you get a leak, you lose the lockup feature. Not so with the TRD e-locker. Also, you get the ENTIRE third member with the TRD one and you only get the locker with the ARB setup and you then have to rebuild the diff and buy the air source. TRD is cheaper in this respect.

The hardest part of the TRD e-locker is the wiring and the hosuing modification.

Marlin Crawler carries both...

The ARB requires a burst of air to change its state... that said, to add to poodles point, if you spring a leak you'll be stuck in whatever state of locked/unlocked you were in until you get air pressure back.

Very true, however, with the ARB, and a good air pump, you get onboard air, which is great for inflating tires after an off-road excursion. ;)

I was inches from buying an e-locker a few months ago, but someone got it before me. :( I'll take whichever I can find used. LOL.

Can get em brand new from Marlin :D

Make it this way, for what I spent to rebuild my rear diff (as the the third member was shot so my core was bad) I could have bought an E-locker...

You can buy a cheap air compressor from wal-mart to re-air the tires and still come in way cheaper...

Yep, on board air is pimp.

I was reading about a dude who seam welded his running board sliders and used them as air tanks. He could cycle his diff a few hundred times before he would have otherwise had to recharge his pressure reserve. Pretty good idea, IMHO.

Update!

my safety inspection failed with flying colors! The frame has no rot whatsoever, which surprised me. The whole drivetrain is very solid. They just don't like the rust on the bed. So, I've started the rust repair.

Failing a safety inspection because of bodyrust? I've never even heard of that!
