I feel bad for you if you bought it for gas milage...

My Supra gets better than my truck ever did.
This thing has been getting around 24mpg in the city so far.

My Supra got half that, AND it ran on 94 all the time.

Poodles: thanks for the links. This is my 3rd 22R vehicle, I know a lot of those sites already :)

My '94 gets about 20-22 highway, 18 around town. 22re.

I've nearly got all the parts for my 7M swap though, so screw that underpowered 22re. LOL.

Great truck, Rob!

F that. I bought this truck for gas milage. If there's going to be anything new going under the hood of this truck motor wise, it's going to be a 1KD. Funny you mention that though, an R154 can be easily modified to bolt right up to the 4 wheel drive's transfer case.

Besides, I can overcome lack of power with my rediculous gearing! In low range, I can top 5th out at like 70km/h. "How slow do you want to go" ;)

the trans is a r150 or r151 or something.. i would think its just as strong as the r154 but with just different gear ratios..

The 22R-TE comes with the R151. The R150 is the V6 tranny, which is identical except the R151 has a shorter 1st gear. Yes, they're as strong as the R154, just different gear ratios.

I actually found a guy who runs a Toyota truck junkyard. I'm talking with him about shipping a transmission and transfer case to me.

I would like to formally ask whoever installed the alarm system in this car to never touch an electrical wire again.

Driver's side kick panel, with alarm brain "installed" behind it. The kick panel was never properly but back either. Kept falling off while I was driving.

truck&

Entire alarm system removed in about 30 minutes. That's including taking the carpet up to pull wires out. Not a SINGLE wire was crimped or soldered. Everything was twisted, then if lucky, tape was applied. The fucking power wire was pushed under a fuse.

Now that that's out, my dome lights now work, and my clock no longer resets whenever I open a door.

I also removed the crappy stereo installation, and did it properly.

Wow very good find. I never knew they made a turbo model until now.
Yeah, it's SUPER rare, expecially in Canada. It was built to compete with the Mazda B2600, which was released in 86. The turbo truck was only sold in 86, and 87, then production was stopped, when they came out with the 3L V6 in 88. They sold the remaining 87 stock in 88 too.

I have heard rumors of a turbo 85 (solid front axle), but I haven't seen one yet.

There's still one more truck even rarer than this around north america... the 2.4L turbo...diesel (AKA, the truck Top Gear tried to destroy).

a friends truck is still going on 500k miles with no rebuild. he has done the same maintenance routine since he bought it (original owner) and makes 1000 miles trips quite often

24MPG is not bad, makes me feel decently good about keeping my 4runner 'for the milage', as that it averages in around there.

That truck is hot stuff Rob, can't wait to see it. Will you be bringing it to e-town for the show n'shine?

Also, to add about LSD's... I would recommend going to a locking diff in the rear for off-road. If you're just looking to make it track straight in the winter, an LSD is fine... but if you want to get up and over things, a locker is the only way to go. ARB makes a mean air-operated locker, and IIRC you can get a detroit auto-locker.

Youtube comments aside, this video shows the difference between an LSD and a true locking differential, offroad. The Tundra's LSD can't compete with the locker in the GMC when in 2WD.
