The way it was explained to me (and this is physics) is that you can push 10psi through a straw really easy with pretty low CFM, but if you get, say, a 2.5" PVC pipe, it takes a lot more air to make 10psi.

ok what i know is that ...stock pistons are safe up to 400-450hp with the proper tuning ofcourse..57trim is more reliable then a 60 trim but i wouldnt use that turbo to make over 400hp..gt67 or better would be your best bet.

not necessarily...per turbo yes...but if he got a different turbo than no...the same psi would set you at completely different numbers.

remember its all about how much flow...not just psi.

Yeah, I read those last night. Interesting post, indeed. I was always curious as to what type of airflow an engine intakes. A friend of mine wants to put his leafblower on my old go-cart I have from when I was young, and that's the post that gve me a small idea as to how much CFM to push into it. It's gonna blow up but i dont care...

Back to the supra, That $1600 price tag is hefty. I think i'm gonna try to be un-poor first and just get a 57 trim upgrade on my spare (which I know is stock) turbo.

these cars arent cheap..it takes time and research and i always stress proper tuning
I have access to at least two highly regarded tuning shops within 20 minute drive, and I will be taking it to one of them for that.

But first I have to get it running (properly) again.

I need a new turbo, a new ISC valve, and some hose connector that goes into the firewall.

I think I'm going to rebuild now and make faster later. I just want my supra back, dammit!

But thanks for the help. I appreciate it.

Well since the thread's up and I don't want to start lots of problem threads, does anyone know anything about the ISC valve? Mine's apparently bad and it's causing it to do weird things.

did you check for boost leaks yet?

Nope. I purchased the car with it like that (I was aware of it). He said that the ISC valve is supposed to make some tick sound when you turned the car off if it's working properly or something. I'm not sure he knew what he was talking about.

What I notice the car do, though, is when I get on the gas real hard (say, quick, hard shift) it'll actually die a few times... being re-ignited by the fact that the clutch is engaged/etc. But what it results in is the car jerking a few good times. This sound like it'd be caused by a bad ISC?

I got a PM from another member selling one for a good price, so I'm most likely going to take him up on that anyway.

Your symptoms are not consistent with a bad ISC at all. Does this car have a non-recirculated blow-off valve by any chance?

If the ISC is not ticking when you turn it off, it could be something as simple as a bad connection between the ECU and the ISC.

Unless you have specifically tested it (and they are very reliable by the way) and its bad, then look elsewhere. Start by following the TSRM diagnostics.

Actually, before you do anything further check for ECU codes. Swapping parts with no clue is a good way to waste time and get frustrated.

more boost on the same turbo without something up, yes.

if the turbos are different sizes, it depends.

don't tell someone who just bought a mkIII to buy a mkIV. don't tell him its a hg because you "think" they go bad at a certain mileage, when you don't know the condition of the car or the specs of the rebuild. also, don't list things like more hp=more boost if you don't know... otherwise you're either misleading someone else or asking a question in a thread not dedicated to it.

sorry went through several pages, i was reffering to boosting185's comment about boost. sorry if its a bit harsh for this forum...

It hasn't been said yet.....but your symptoms are consistent with Fuel Cut. I was told to hush when I suggested that white smoke may signal BHG. It's common knowlege, but ya, maybe I should just shut up???

And........Welcome to the site. I think you WILL enjoy it here.
