*UPDATE*

Car is running normal now. He did a compression test and it came out to 160-165 across the board. Is that a healthy compression?

He hasnt been charging me as much as I have been thinking and so far he is not far off what I expected to pay. So to answer your question, he isnt doing a bad job and doing it in a timely manner.

brake and clutch systems are completely separate. Clutch lines are not routed anywhere near hot parts of the engine unless the car is RHD. So try again.

and what do you put in for clutch fluid ???:biglaugh: :biglaugh:
ohh yeah DOT 4 clutch fluid....lol

ps. i dont whant to try again, i dont think it would matter:nono:

this thread just reminds me of a few years ago, i would pay HUGE $$$$
on labour for things that take no time at all to fix..

GL Kyle i hope you get her going again soon.

Well, I have a very very exciting update...

I called the mechanic today to see what was going on since I haven't called him since Saturday and I ask how the car is doing. He sais "Not bad" I say to him "When someone says not bad, it usually isnt any good." He replies with "Yah, its not so good." Here I'm thinking, oh god, the motor exploded, BHG, rodknock, the works. I ask him whats up and he pauses for a second and laughs and replies with "Well, the mechanic that was supposed to work on your car got arrested a couple days ago for beating his wife. The cops arrested him at the shop"

So... I told the guy I would call him back tomorrow after I have decided what I want to do with the car. I dont need to think, I am having it towed outa there and sent to someone actually very close... Rupinder!!!! I called Rupinder today after I got off the phone with the baphoon of a mechanic of mine and he is going to call me with a detailed quote with how many hours its going to take etc. I cant wait to hear back.

Finally... some piece of mind :D

Wow, that mechanic seems to suck at life. Can't figure out your car and goes home to beat his wife, stand up guy!

Good luck man, hopefully they'll cut you a break for dealing with the abuser.

Well its time for an update!!!

The car went to Rupinder's place last weekend and so far so good. His service is awesome and they are lighting fast. The clutch went in, suspension setup went in. Exhaust is going in soon. Valve seals, timing belt, cam gears, tensioner, water pump, most of the gaskets etc are being replaced.

Unfortunately there were a few minor things along the way that needed to be taken care of.

Bill, who is the Supervisor told me that the crankcase is leaking? Didnt really talk to him much about it, but is this a big problem? I am not sure what this means. He said the head will need to be removed to fix the problem and will probably cost me about 5 or so hours of labour. What do you guys think?

I don't see how the head has to come off for the crank.. But the whole front cover needs to come off. including the timing plate...

Did he say waht was leaking?

I would assume if its going to take 5 hours he means that between the crankcase/sump is leaking so the subframe needs to be dropped to take the sump off to clean it and re seal it.

He said the "crankcase is leaking". Please tell me you arent letting this guy work on it. If you "crankcase" is leaking, then its either a hole in your block, a bad oil pan gasket, or a bad rear main seal.

Now if you car was not leaking oil before you took it in, then why would it be leaking oil now? I hate to see you get milked for 5 more hours of labor for something that is probably not even broke.

All it takes is you getting on your hands and knees for a few minutes to look if you see any heavy buildup of fresh oil anywhere on the oil pan. If not, then you are good to go. Sometimes oil pan bolts get loose, you can tighten most of them just from laying underneath the care with a ratchet.

Im wondering why you dont do your own work anyway? Plus, the less you act like you know when talking to your mechanic, the more hes going to milk and milk you.

He said the crankcase thing really isnt a big issue and if I don't want it done, it doesn't have to be. So for now, im not going to do it.

I don't work on my car because I dont have the time. Plain and simple :(

get under it with a wrench and feel the bolts...it can take 15 minutes to check some spots for loose ones. heck you might have one missing.... good luck.

Bill is a real good guy, and from what i got out of the convo (i was at the shop and i over heard) was that the front main seal was leaking. Could have been some other guys car though. Anyway, looks like they do good work so far!
