My baby is on life support via an engine fire i need help guys!!!

ok so here is the background its a 87 turbo. the motor has weisco pistons, the block has been bored 20 over to fit the new piston. the whole rotating asembly was balanced new bearings and all that good stuff. the head: all titanaium oversized valves, ported and poilshed metal headgasket. turbo is rebuilt (150 mikles on it) rebuilot with larger conmpressor wheels. there plenty more to list on mods but this isnt a builkd up thread im just giving some general background to help. so here is the bad i am driving home on rte. 6 in ct and my buddy calls me and says holy shit something just fell off your car on fire. i cut the engine pop the hood and run to the front. i opened the hood and stared at armegedden. i am hoping that the motor is still good and the tranny and turbo. the fire never got to the bottom of the engine bay as the lower radiator hose and power steering houses are fine. everything around the motor is definetly toast. i have another supra its an 88 non turbo blown motor and not a good chasis. here is my plan and my questiopn to you guys. i am going to try and take all the shit in the engin bay out of the 88 and put it in the turbo car. this incldes fuse box brake master and booster, clutch master and line, wiper motor, power steering lines, i will need to but an ingnitor, coil pack, and wires. im gonna put my non turbo valve covers on. and i need to find an engine harnerness. is this doable guys and if so am i in for the worst month of my life? Do all the fuses match non turbo to turbo and so on for the brakes and clutch parts? i am gonna ditch cruise and the heater matrix valve and the ugly unbrunt fuel can. Please guys i need alot of help.

holy crap, i thought my fire was bad. i am so sorry to hear about that.. the bay looks like it got completely toasted. i would try to answer some questions but i've gotta leave like, 5 minutes ago!

good luck fixing it though!

Fuse box is connected to the main engine harness and plugs into the main fuse box in the driver kick panel. I doubt they are the same from turbo to non-turbo. The harnesses were not the same from turbo to non-turbo on my 92. The peripheral components i.e. master cylinder, wiper motor, etc will all work.

Wow, that is one hearbreaking picture!

Ok thanks for the info about the fuses....I will source that from another turbo supra (anyone parting out???) good about the engine bay peripherials......does anyone think the motor is gonna still be good?

I would check it first. It may be the same, it was different on mine though.

Ummmm the fire went for a good 20 minutes.......lame ass fire dept couldn't find the hood release.....they used the jaws of life(they never heard of work smarter not harder)

Wow that sucks. sorry about your lose.

I would check over everything really carefully before you switch it over. The engine may be fine. Im sure the internals probably are but to be on the safe side i would check all tolerances to make sure nothing has warped.

The block is cast iron, it likely didn't get hurt in the fire... the head may have annealed or warped or both... all you can really do is pull the motor, clean it up and check it out.

I'm going to buy fire extinguishers for both my vehicles tonight :O Seeing way too many "my supra burned to the ground!" threads lately...

Oh man, sorry to hear about this. I hope you were insured. I would cry if my supra caught on fire. I agree what everything that has been said. But hey look on the bright side, now you could go 1jz or 2jz if you want. Hmmmm, NA... fire... get 1jz:icon_bigg. Good luck on what you decide.

Just to let you know my experience. When i put a 7MGTE in my 86.5 the only harness i had to buy was the engine harness. All the items in the engine bay are still the original ones. All the needed plugs under the dash connected with no issues. The only thing i had to swap out was the tach. Good luck with your swap.

I think you might hvae misunderstood my intentions...the swap is going the other way non turbo perpherials into the turbo chasis...I have found the wiring harness, ignitor, and coil packs so far.....how am I doing?

ohh man, seeing that engine bay brought back some bad memories from my 89 burning up 2 years ago!!
soo sorry to hear\see this!! r u gonna fix or change it? i hope your insured for such a thing!! i had no choice but to replace the car, because it was completely toasted, no plastic left whatsoever!!

hmm

this is alot of car fires going on recently.

For all you guys that the car catched fire. Can you tell where the fire started? Reason I ask is that back in 1996. I was doing some maintanance int he car and smelled burning plastic. I started digging around and the found the culprit. It was a GROUND wire to the fuse block in the engine compartment. When I discovered it, it basically was just a bare copper wire with no covering at ALL. It had metled off. I can see where it was starting to melt the box but I discovered it in time. The wire is not to thick (14 gauge tops) so I replaced it with a 3, 4 gauge wires.

From the battery to the chassis.
From Battery to Engine block.
From Battery to distribution block.

no more wire melting.

What I am going to guess is that the spot welds on the chassis are starting to give and causing an increase in current in the miniscule ground oem wires. I got the car apart still. I will try to take pictures.......

The car is no longer on rte 6 its at my house in thomaston. The fire happened at the intersection with the train tracks where if your going from bristol to terryville and take a right yuoll go up to the big firestone plant.....you sound local any help is appreaciated wink wink all pizza and beers on me

wow..... sorry for your loss. i need to get an extinguisher for myself. ill check my garage tomorrow for some stock turbo parts. i know i have a wiring harness, fan (w/ fan clutch), some intake piping, a few stock intercooler pipes, almost brand new accordion hose from toyota, a few lex afms, maybe stock afm. let me know if you need anything.
