Hey fellow supra owners. Just wanted to vent. I installed my five speed and have been babying my clutch for fivehundred miles so I could go racing Saturday night. My wife and I went to Bama Dragway and I was sorely disappointed. I know it's going to take a while to learn how to launch properly, and when to shift, but here are the three times I ran. I don't know how to scan them and then upload right now so I will just type them in. The reason I'm posting this in the kills section is I did outrun an 06 GT in the last race. He has a 75 shot of nos,but he didn't spray.

1st. ........................ 2nd ...................... 3rd
r/t .110 ........................ .412...................... .245
60' 2.620 ....................... 2.402 ..................... 2.361
330 6.988 ........................ 6.456 ..................... 6.382
1/8 10.223 ........................ 9.508 ..................... 9.380
MPH 76.87 ......................... 81.08 ...................... 85.23

I raced twice and won both times, but I was still disappointed in the results. I outran a 1989 Firebird and an 06 Mustang GT. The track was real slick, and I kept spinning thruough first and second. My auto would never spin so I got down the track a little quicker, but the transmission couldn't handle it. It started slipping real bad. Hence, the five speed swap. Maybe after I race a few more times I'll get to launching better. I was happy with my trap speed the last race though. My best time in an auto was 8.73 at 83.49 mph. Thanks for reading and I am open to suggestions...................lol

Thanks Kwnate. I know how to DRIVE a five speed good, I've just got to get used to feathering it off the line. I let my air pressure down to 25 after the first two runs. That seemed to help a little. Now, I've got to go air them back up.............lol

you know it would have been really nice if the a340e stock automatic was as tough as the r154 manual, then it would all boil down to preference. automatics arent always faster at the track, they however just get more consistant times and are easier to drag race. drag racing a manual is a much different animal, spinning your tires even one bit can mean the difference between a good and bad 60'. just keep working on it.

u have to find the balance between boost and traction. on street tires, usually 2-3psi is as high as you can go.

That balance is what I'm searching for. I tried to launch the first time and spun like crazy. Ten and a half seconds later............I went over the finish line. The second and third times were not as bad. I feathered it a little more and thought I had made up for it. My trap speed of 85.23 was the fastest I had ever gone in an 1/8. It felt like it should have been a 9.00 flat easy, but alas, it wasn't. I'll keep working on it though, and like you said, maybe next time the track will be better...............lol

actually i was talking about brake boosting an auto off the line.

*you* have to find the balance between throttle, and slipping the clutch. a lot harder then it sounds, and a lot more expensive when the clutch takes a beating.

launching an auto hard is a million times easier than launching a stick hard.

I agree. It was easy to launch my auto with a pretty good bit of boost. I did that a few times though, and the next thing I know, my auto is slipping like hell. I could have had it rebuilt, but I prefer to change gears while I'm driving my supra. My wife's is an automatic if I want to drive one.............lol

i did an auto to 5sp swap on my car, and i must say i prefer the 5sp! never got to run my car with the auto at a track, so dont really know what times she could have run, but i took my 5sp to sac raceway for the first time ever making a pass down the 1/4, i ran a 15.0 at 93mph with a 2.2 60ft

with some mods, lex afm, boost controller, cut stock exhaust after the precat, intake, i ran a 14.2 at 98.8mph with a 2.2 60ft, i did like back to back runs and was able to get a 2.1 60ft, but only ran a 14.3 at 97mph cause of heat soak(back to back to back runs) it sure was fun though even though the motor had a rod knock!

Nice job Pokey. If I could get my 60' times to 2.1 I'd run like 200 mph in an 1/8....................:biglaugh:

My 60' is what's killing my time. I was doing 85.33 in an 1/8 but my 60' was 2.361. ...........The track where I race is usually pretty slick. I'm going again tonight and try about three more passes. Maybe I'll get better launches and get my 60' reduced. I'll post up tonight and let you know either way. Bad or good.
