sucks malloy :( i really saw you as my close competition when i was running my old SP61GT (now i saw the light and have gone with something similiar to yours).

i did read the other thread mentioned and it sounds like you have some stuff to work out personally. tigerkat was talking about my gf (who ive been with now for 3 yrs) and you can find a happy medium with the car and the girl at the same time. Kira bought me my intercooler that is now one of the focal points of my setup.

Its a fine balancing act and im sorry to hear about your car. i have some stock stuff left over if you need it at all and i also know someone selling some JE pistons .20 over for around $600 new if you need them.

dont part the car just yet. part it (its not going to cost you anything! i parked my supra at my appt complex for over a month while it was down with turbo issues) w/o inicdent. or even put it into storage for a while. give ya some time to cool off and take a look at it later. there are times i have been so pissed about my car blowing turbos (6 in a yearish) that i was about to part it out but now that its up and running (abet with a stock ct26) i remember how much fun the car is and why i keep it around. hth!

damn dude, i had to skim the pages but i'm sorry to hear about your car. I did get to see one pic of the car posing...no damage pics? but when i did i couldnt hardly believe you wanted to part her out. especially from the looks of how nice she is aesthetically...beautiful car.

i think i've even complimented you on it before...ROTM maybe? i dont remember, all i know is that car is awsome and i didnt know you were running such impressive numbers.

I know how something like that can be hard as shit to deal with when what you had was soo nice...and someone may have said this, but think of it this way; you got some fuckin good numbers with that engine and you should try and be proud of how much power you were able to make. use the rod as a conversation piece and wait until you can make her run again. by putting that much effort into a car you must have a passion for it, and giving up on something you love could make you incomplete...depending on your feelings. (that is...the feelings for the car before it broke...not the hurt of it letting go on you)

best of luck... you probably are getting by transportation wise without her so just take your time and bring her back....make sure shes locked up tight while you're away and take some of what free time you have to work on it.

Good luck Mike! I've been in a similar situation where the car had to take the backseat to financial stability and it SUCKS. I had to part a car I dearly loved that I put I my heart and soul into. 5 years later, I've got another MKIII that I bought 4 years ago. It's been down for the last 3 years, same problem, rod through the block. I like this car even more than the previous one and have a situation where I can afford to build it the way I want. Pumping 20K into a 15 year old car isn't smart but it's my hobby and a source of pleasure. But family/finances are the first priority. Take care of that first and when things settle down you can look at another project, might be a Supra, might be a house, miht be anything... Let YOUR life dictate your priorities and do what you need to meet them. Good luck!

Mike...you do whatever you have to do under your circumstances, sometimes changes in life and financial needs can't be avoided, Ive been there done that. I parted my red 88 when I divorced so I could survive. Everything turned around for me, got a new one and look where I'm at 3years later. Just dont disappear on us when the part out is over. Im sure after the move and the new job starts evrything will pick up for you and eventually you'll be back even stronger! You know where to catch me if you wanna vent or BS or whatever.

Dam dude, hate to hear about your engine going out like that. I have always followed your car on this site and what you was able to do with a bolt on turbo. I know your frustration though when money is small and these cars are giving you big trouble. Would love to see it return but do whats best for you, will always be another day to come back to play.

I would like to know what really happened to the motor. The rod isn't going to snap when on the highway. It has to be an oiling issue where a bearing failed, or a piston was cracked earlier and eventually failed. These beefy rods just don't snap in half.

FWIW, I've been at 500 crank hp since 02. I know a guy who's done 800 to the wheels at arond 8k rpms on stock rods. IIRC, still on the same motor he's had for a long while. He drives that car like it's meant to be driven. :)

I say (even though it seems too late) park the car and let it sit. Come back to it when you have enough cash to do it. Parting it out isn't going to get you much, unfortunately.

Good luck with your situation, Mike. I hope things come together for you soon.

I'm soo fuckin pissed. today while driving back from delaware to north carolina a fuckin rod punches through the block on the interstate. i'm just crusing at 70mph and BAMMM!!! I pull over and my fuckin engine is on fire. I caused this huge scene on I-85 SOUTH. I 'm talking fire turcks, cops cars, etc.. luckly people pulled over and helped me out. I would have lost my car today if it wasn't for a guy pulling over with a fire estingisher. Oh btw... this happened 220miles from home so i got hit up with a 600$ toe bill.

i don't care what anyone says, FUCK the stock rods. my 3yrs of hard work is gone due to these rods. They will hold 600hp however not for very long. I refuse to put it back together. when i was there watching my car burn it took alot out of me. I cannot bring myself to do another rebuild. the car is getting parted out. EVERYTHING IS FORSALE. and i'm selling cheap.

PICS to follow

Were they "treated" stock rods? If so I had those in my car for 4 years (same rods with the last motor too). 620 RWHP and multple passes on them. Now if they were simply bone stock..it might explain things. Just sit down for a min or 10 and you will want to put it all back together.

I just read the first post so now I will go and read the rest. Sorry to hear that bud.

treated? how's that work? whats it do? i'm guessing its some kind of heating and cooling process? i cant think of anything else that could change the strength of metal.

Get them magna fluxed to check for any stress cracks, resized, and shot peened. It relieves stress and makes them more reliable. ARP rod bolts and a good balance also.

Stress relieved via shot, IIRC. The owner took a set of rods to a local (to him) Formula 1 shop (lab or something to that effect). They told him those rods would take whatever he threw at them. Very beefy.

I would have no problem in throwing anything at a set of stock rods.

rods were treated, balanced, etc... i'm going to do an autospy of the motor. i really don't know what the hell happened. oil pressure was spot on, good compression, always ran it rich, etc...

Let me first qualify my staement with this...........I AM VERY MOD ILLITERATE! And not much of a mechanic. Maybe it will show in what I say.

I have read about several mods, but not but not been around many. Today I was looking at the pictures in your build thread. I found something I have read about and never seen.........an oil filter relocation. At least that is what I think that is right beside your turbo. Your turbo is shown with no heat shield as well. Is it possible that the excessive heat from the turbo was breaking down the oil, to where it did not lubricate as good as it should?
