Soooo......TODAY!
I've been tearing down a spare trans while I had nothing to do at work the last couple days, figured I would rebuild that one, then I could drive car in and just do a swap. It became apparant quickly someone had rebuilt it before, which explained why it made a grinding noise. I tore it down, cleaning everything and organizing it on my bench as I went along(cuz Im anal like that), then I got down to the forward clutch /planetary gears and found some shit grinding against each other, they had clearly been installed by some assclown who thought it would be a good idea to beat the piss out of it with a hammer when it wouldnt go in right. Im not investing in any hard parts, so...........tomorrow I drive the black beauty to work, pull the trans, and start from scratch.......fooooey!!!:cry:

When Vixen's tranny was slipping from first to second, I tried to adjust the detent cable and it never seemed to help that much. I put a bottle of Lucas transmission rebuild in a bottle and within a three to four day period it had stopped slipping completely. Swear to God, I aint kidding neither. I was totally shocked, because I had read on here that additives didn't really work, but this one does or at least it did. I'm sure rebuilding the tranny is a better solution, but I wimped out and went the easy way. Hope you get it put back together with no more than four parts left over. I think you can get by with three, but four is pushing it.....................lol
Jay...Ya, the detent cable just ups the line pressure on these, I went from slip 1-2, to barely gets out of its own way in a matter of a few days, and I got a kit for $208, so its gettin done right......leftover parts FTL!!

Today!
Got the trans out in 35 minutes, it was all well lubed, thanks to the spewing v/c gaskets......took another 35 min to clean tools,,,,,man it has some rust proof crap caked on the bottom, but it has worked well. Damn, those stock downpipes are shit, haven't seen one yet that wasn't plugged up, I need to find something to gut the pre-cat!

funny you posted this cuz i am in truck transmissions class now in my school and we just took apart a 5speed today. man, automatic transmissions are complicated as hell. you have the gift.

New trans installed and working great, oil leaks fixed, but I cant make it past my mailbox and I broke my snowblower..shiiiiiiiit! I guess I will be ho'in up my thread today, heres some pics in da snow.....notice them ugly ass sawblades are GONE, and the black rims look cool on this car! :icon_razz The Red Rocket is officially garaged for the winter, It does NOT see snow.

I hate this shit! Winter sucks. I cleared the driveway 1.5 hours ago and its got 8" of snow again. No one even answers at work when I try to call. I guess the dealership is closed, I think they got hit even harder there.

Black rims look great on the car!!!! Sorry to here about all the snow but my days are numbered here in Fargo as well, so I can feel your pain. Not much snow here right now but I am sure its coming!!!! My car has bee in storage since Oct 1 so I can sleep well at night.

My buddy that worked with me moved up there, I always forget N or S Dakota. I guess I'll email him today....lol. I had to go up there for work when I worked for the railroad and fix a locomotive, I was stuck there for two weeks....it sucked, It was in January.
Ya Jannuary sucks, -20 is not fun!!! Nothing runs!!!! If you dont plug in your car you are done. Thats why I keep my old Ford Bronco, its a pile but no mater how cold it gets I know it will start!!!!! Really its just Jan and Feb that are the worst here by March we are usually above zero again and by April Da Soup is back on the road!!!!

Lolz.....I wish I had my old 4runner. We were stuck there in the weather, we made up for it getting hammered and pigging out at the hotel all day on the company credit card. Im looking forward to it too, I've never even gone to a meet.
Hell of a storm we got man. I think we got close to a foot of snow down here. But yeah i tried driving my surpa in the snow about 4 years ago and well lets just say i havent done it again after that day. Car looks good though with the black wheels.
