I know mpg might not be everyone's goal, but I still like to tour around in my "touring" car.

My question, if anybody knows (or cares) is, if I upgrade to the lexus/550's will my mpg be the same as now under the same conditions? I currently get 28 on the hightway. Just looking for a little more fun around town, for which I will give up some MPG's, lol

28mpg!!! Average around town for me is 17mpg, hwy (cruising around 65-70) is about 24 at best, these are also running without the a/c on. Good numbers bro.

Mileage depends on your right foot.

With the Lex/550s, you can get into it a bit more, and if you do, then mileage will be worse.

However, if you drive in exactly the same manner with the Lex/550 as you did with the stock setup, you'll get the same mileage, particularly at part throtthe/closed loop mode. The fuel delivery will be tuned to get the same AFR as stock, so mileage is the same.

Idle may be a bit richer, so that's a bit more fuel.

I suppose that in theory, the larger barrel of the Lex AFM might impose a bit less restriction on the intake, which would translate to a mileage increase, but I personally think that this effect will be negligible at best.

All in all, it should balance out... So long as you keep your foot out of it.

and by the way, most things that you upgrade when you have a turbo car... downpipe, elbow, intake, intercooler etc.....will actually give you better mileage if you drive normally...but good luck driving normally when you have those mods :evil2:

you guys need to tell us the secret, i can barley get 20mpg's on a good week

Don't mash the right peddle into the carpet.

Most people are shocked when I tell them I can get upto 220 miles out of half a tank, even day to day driving I still see 24 mpg imperial (20 us)

20?! astounding...i think i'm getting like 17ish if i'm lucky....but i am using 5W-50. I was told the oil you use can affect the mileage as well...i noticed i got less mileage when I switched from 5W-30 to 5W-50. Soon, I'll be switching to 0W-50. But I don't mind paying that price for mileage when that oil is taking care of my engine and keeping it clean!

and whats the logic behind using a 50w in a system designed for a 30w? you just like making your oil pump work harder? :sarcasm:

If it's enos 0W-50 it's not that bad. The enos oil from what i remember is really "thin".

My motor is going to be a little more open and i'm going to use a 40W oil.

28? Wow! Seems kinda high for a supra. I see you're in Canada, did you do the conversion right? Is it completely stock? My fuel and intake are stock but my exhaust is 3" from the turbo back and the best so far is low 20's mpg hwy. I can hardly ever get the Economy on my SuperMonitor to stay in the 20's. You give it just a little boost and the average mpg will drop like a rock. So I just calculate it myself when I fill up and it usually says about 20 or 21 mpg. I add a little to that because my diff is a 3.91 but my tranny is geared for a 4.30 so I'm doing a little better than that. I can go a little over 300 miles to a tank, and that's 300 miles off the odometer that's thinking I have a 4.30 rear end.

are you kidding? well no wonder most of you get craptacular mileage.

the secret.. LEAN cruise. only possible with standalone.
It's a price I'm willing to pay to keep my engine clean! Gas for me is at $4.39/gal right now and as stated in another thread, if gas hit $7/gal..i'd fill up on 100 octane since the price has been fluxuating (sp?) from $7.40-$7.60 these past couple years.

What do you consider a safe lean figure under cruise? 15.0-16.0......or leaner than that? It seems anything leaner than that might get the pistons too hot, but I don't know for a fact. Just curious as to what you tune yours for on highway cruising.

When I went to the Texas meet, I did about ninety most of the way and I got exactly 20.0 mpg, but I've never left a red light yet without being the first one gone when possible........:biglaugh:

I currently have a built motor and a 57trim, with lex and 550's and I get 28mpg on the highway. You shouldn't have a problem retaining what you get right now. I have no idea what I get when I'm driving around town, because I can never keep my foot out of it. Oh well.

It's funny how you guys will "cherry pick" a single post to support the BS you do to these cars. Read the rest of the thread...for example:

Enos 0W-50 is not "really thin"...it's 75% thicker than Red Line 5W-30 "cold" (at 40 deg C). Since this "cold" value is 104 deg F, imagine how thick it gets at 50 deg F. Here's one of my posts for the same thread...the one SoulStar "cherry picked":
http://www.supramania.com/forums/showpost.php?p=764466&postcount=6

There's no way I will run a 50W multigrade in a 7M unless the oil system has been extensively modified. It simply does not flow well enough...that includes Enos oil. It is not necessary for a stock motor and will adversely affect gas mileage without providing any benefit.
