There's no way I will run a 50W multigrade in a 7M unless the oil system has been extensively modified. It simply does not flow well enough...that includes Enos oil. It is not necessary for a stock motor and will adversely affect gas mileage without providing any benefit.

JD, I ment it's on the thinner side for a 50Weight oil not by much as it seems. ;)

It's funny how you guys will "cherry pick" a single post to support the BS you do to these cars. Read the rest of the thread...for example:

dude, honestly, you need to chill out. I was in no way prading around that Eneos is the best oil ever made. I was just showing what i will be using. does it really bother you that bad that you have to go out and bash people for using it or even mentioning it just because it doesn't match up to data and probablilities? i for one believe that real life experiences will outweigh stipulation, opinions, and any small thing to be thrown at it. I for one have personally seen and experienced the oil i will be using and i will be sticking to it. regardless of whatever people say. i really don't care. In the future, if you really don't have anything good/nice to say, ignore it and just don't say anything at all. It's things like this that will/has lead to the deterioration of communities. remember, people do have opinions because of personal experience. now is that a reason to bash?

LOL soulstar I feel ya about probabilities and theories ....... wasn’t the world flat and didn’t the universe revolve around the earth........ Jdub and I have disagreed about oil and I just say prove it. Its your car do what makes you feel comfortable because when I breaks who will be the people that are willing to come over and help you turn a wrench???? Do what you do man, cars are a personal thing there are few completely wrong answers other than that its all about preferences doesn't our manufacture say to use 20w50 in temps 80 and above. When I took my motor apart after using 3 years of 20w50 in the summer and 5w30 in the winter there was no sign of wear on the bearings.

When I drive like a normal person I can get around 310-320 from a single tank. I also don’t run a thermostat in the summer ::dead horse::I personally think people who cant get over 300 aren’t really mindful of how they drive...

Care to explain how I "bashed" you?
Sure seems you get butt hurt pretty darn easily...do what you want...you can drive you car off a cliff for all that I care. What I said is the truth.

You need to remember something...I am the SME for oil on SM. If I see someone that chooses to ignore the science behind what motor oil does and how it affects the operating characteristics of an engine, I am going to point it out. A 50W oil is going to adversely affect gas mileage and it's flow through the motor is not nearly as good as the lighter weight 30W oils the motor was designed for...those are facts, not opinions. My actual experience backs it up too...what makes you think that it doesn't?

I never said Enos oil is a bad oil, I pointed out that a 50W multigrade is not what you want to use on 95% of the cars out there. And, I am not the only one in this thread to do so. In fact, Toyota has approved (and is promoting) lighter weight 5W-20 oils for many of their current engines...note the JZ series is one of them:

I guess the Toyota engineers are bashing you too ;)
Experience is fine...back it up with data based on more than one instance. If you think I said something to you that was insulting or offensive, take it up with SupraCentral.

I don't think it's what you said, jdub, as to how you said it...

...it did kinda come of as being asshole-ish.

But hey, to each his own.

I, personally run a blend between 10-30 full synthetic and 20-50 of the same brand.

Most of the time, however, I just seem to run a 10-30. As far as my mileage, it sucks. It will always suck, and I know it.

I didn't exactly buy the car for the mileage, if you know what I mean. If you want mileage, go by a hybrid or a smartcar. Or walk.

Just my opinon.

Well...I guess I missed the sensitivity training that's required for the younger generation now and days. I just call it the way I see it ;)

BTW - it's not a great idea to mix different weight oils. You really don't know what you end up with viscosity wise.

:biglaugh: i would say let them learn it on their own but some people will still keep doing it and never learn

thank you, that's what I was hopeing for. Guess I'm in the market for a Lex/550 upgrade. If I can keep 28MPG on the highway, I'll live with 10 when I'm playing, lol. AND yes, that would be 28 miles to the imperial gallon. I think that works out a couple less on the US gallon.

its the same ;) USA uses different octane ratings, so 93=98, 91=95 and so on (please correct me on the numbers, but I know for sure, that ranking method in USA and the rest of the world is different)

IJ, it's tough in to have a sports car in AU :) But aren't u running LPG in your supra?

EDIT: When I've changed my fuel filter I gained somewhere around 2-4 extra MPG in highway driving (maybe 1-2 in city). So just plain maintainance helps with MPG ;)

Hmm. Oil weights...

Now, I'm usually the first to say "Just because someone tried it and nothing bad happened doesn't make it a good idea." -- or at least I'd want to say it.

In my NA, starting from about 100,000 km, and up until the 7M-GE came out of the car at 450,000 km, I ran 10W40 in the winter, and 20W50 in the summer. I liked the higher pressure on the gauge, made me feel better. In the end, the engine did use a lot of oil, but that was crunchy valve stem seals. I was looking for signs of blowby, but that seemed perfectly reasonable, so I felt that I wasn't having oiling issues.

Of course, I didn't do a teardown of the engine, so I can't tell you what the bearings looked like, though there was no signs of them being spun, nor of rod knock.

It was also an NA, which means no oil squirters, and no turbocharger to oil. This means that less flow is needed to get everything done. It's really a different system than a GTE.

Was it a bad idea? I had people tell me so, but I think that in this one case going with my driving habits and this specific engine, my odometer, if nothing else, seemed to bear me out as it working. Would it work as well for someone else? Maybe, maybe not.

In the current GTE, I'm running synthetic 10W30 summer, and 5W30 in the winter. I should probably just use the 5W30 all year, but old habits die hard.
