Modified Exhaust laws? I don't understand!

Well I can say that what I have is super quiet. I bought it for that reason, good flow and super quiet. I guess I will compare it to my fathers stock 89 and see whats what. It would be funny if its the same db.

I wonder how bad it will be when we finish the 5speed??

I posted without reading the very statute I posted.

316.293 is inclusive of both noise and muffler modification.

when they cite you they do not throw the entire statute your way.

They are specific.

316.293(2)
or
316.293(5a)
316.293(5b)

they will "itemize" what the infractions were on the ticket.

right...but all the statutes you listed have to do with NOISE.

believe me.... there is NOTHING the cops can do about an exhaust if they dont measure the noise PROPERLY no matter what exhaust ticket they give you. ive gotten three of them and ALL of them have been thrown out because not one cop has measured it with a DB meter.

yes they can give you a ticket for having a modified exhaust...BUT the law is no modification DUE TO THE NOISE DIFFERENTIAL. No test means they cant prove if it was loud(er) or not....

This is simply a ploy by the state to get money out of people who dont take the time to read their rights and the laws properly.... im sure it works more often then not. hell TEHCNICALLY they could give out tickets for modified intakes as well...since the factory airbox is a lot quieter then an open air filter. I wouldnt be surprised to start seeing that sometime soon too as that 5a/b would include that.

oh and john that system should have come with a sticker that looks exactly like the thing you posted does it not? just put it in your glovebox and if they want to give you a ticket AFTER that then get his badge number and file a grievance with his station. and TELL him you are doing so after he gives you the ticket.

Noise is relevant to sub 2 which is independant from sub 5a.Two seperate counts if you will. and 5a does not need noise for a citation to be cited under it. Just an observation of modified. Ambigous to say the least but that why you guys elect state congress to pass stupid things like that hehe

they have a db of pictures. What you think Commieformia LE is the only one that has a db of said pictures available?

dual tips oem, your car not dual tip. MODIFIED. END of story. they don't have a db of said pictures you say. And they also do not have a db of all the infractions on your license throughout the entire lifetime of said license either. No still, how about on the fly OCR of license plates too without the LE ever touching the computer except if it flags. This connected world has alot of info avail to the LE on the spot.

if they dont do an actual DB test on THE MUFFLER/EXHAUST ON YOUR CAR AT THE TIME THEY WRITE THE TICKET.....that ticket WILL get dimissed with no problems in court because there is no way they can just SAY it was/is louder then oem.

well then thank your lucky star I am not the one prosecuting the case It is not that hard to look up any of the information you mentioned when we know (thanks to EPA) what the stock OEM noise values (noise pollution is under their umbrella) are.

to be 100% honest i have absolutely no clue...never paid attention to it and three moves later i have no clue if i have any of the paperwork let alone where it is.... the LAST of the three was almost 2 years ago.
