Not necessarily true.

Yes, if you get popped with a ticket fight it, but bring it to your politician's attention that a law with such loose guidelines is far too easy to abuse.

You guys are kind of worrying prematurely dont you think? If you get popped for it, contest it. Until then worrying about it and getting all worked up and wanting to talk to your politicians is wasted energy if you ask me.

If we don't point this stuff out to our politicians they won't know we think they're retards.

I just think you are geting yourself worked up unneccesarily. If you havent been pulled over for it how do you knnow your local cops are even enforcing it? There are lots of laws on the books that even law enfporcement wont touch because they know it will be a legal nightmare.

If you want to contact your congressman, go for it. I bet he doesnt spend more than 2 seconds thinking about your letter. Maybe Im just pessimistic, but thats what I think. Also, the DMV is like the new IRS. They pretty much do whatever they want with no oversight.

finally, most bad law that gets overturned comes from court cases that are challanged. Without the courts you are going to need an advocate that will champion your cause before the lawmakers of your state. Good luck finding one of those.

You folks really need to get a handle on your politicians...

I can't imagine tolerating the bullshit that some of you folks do.

Both houses are controled by naked Euro-socialists and the Gov was fraudulently elected. Trying to change things here would be akin to paddling up the Colorado river upstream through it's entire length. Now, their trying to ban the initiative process, and impose "green" taxes on roads, bridges and tunnels. The taxes will purchase carbon credits to offset perceived global warming. Sigh..

I'm going to let you in on a little secret here. You may know it already, you may not, but it makes sense. If an officer has the slightest inkling that he may get a good stop out of you, he will use anything to get a terry stop. It's like the seatbelt law. I think if your over 18 it should be your choice whether or not you wear it. But, because it's the law, the officer can use that to get you pulled over, and make contact. From there, he/she will be smelling for alcohol, or a narcotic, and it also gives them the opportunity to run a warrant check on you. Typically, it's not the exhaust or the seatbelt they care about. It's the felony arrest warrant, or the DUI they are after.

Around here, anything with a larger diameter outlet than stock is illegal. I believe there's a noise limit too.

It's such a gray law though. Police only seem to enforce it on civics. My friend got pulled over in his Sil80:
"That's a pretty loud muffler you have on there"
"Actually, it's a cat-back exhaust system sir"
"Well, you shouldn't have done that u-turn. Drive safely"

Personally, I've had police comment on how nice my car is, despite the fact that it sets off car alarms, and has an obvious exhaust outlet diameter of almost 5".

Here in WI the police cannot use no seatbelt as an excuse to pull someone over, although they can pull you over for a burned out taillight that really isn't burned out and give you a ticket for the secondary offense of not wearing a seatbelt. Sadly we have some cops in the area that aren't afraid to make up BS like this to pull you over.
