Missing clutch pedal backstop?

There are a lot of threads about adjusting the engagement point & freeplay, but mine seems abnormally high (about 8" away from the firewall). It doesn't contact the pushrod from the master cylinder until it's about even with the brake.

Is there a piece missing? There seems to be a switch that engages when the pedal is full out, but it looks like whatever is supposed to engage it (and keep the pedal from going so high!) is missing.

This is a new car to me--I bought it w/ a BHG and a lot of other minor issues that I've already sorted through, but this is the first thing I haven't been able to find an existing answer for. It's an 89 7MGE if it matters.

Looks like you need a new master- the firewall cover material looks to be soaked in brake fluid. Also, the pushrod should not be disconnected like your appears. Looks like someone tried to weld it back together but failed.

Get a new clutch master and it should come with everything!

ninja edit: SHould look like this:

The fork end of it is definitely separated from the round part at the end. Thank you for the quick answer!
