Mid-range Torque Wrench

After getting no responses within my other general thread, I figured I'd post one just for a torque wrench.

I am considering buying a craftsman since I haven't found much else short of a snap-on.

Anyone know any under or around 150 that'd be better than the craftsman?

The craftsman ones have a consistent problem with the retaining nut coming loose over time. They are only 60 bucks and seem to stay rather accurate.

I'd love to have a snap-on, but it would be rather dumb of me to spend 300 or whatever on a wrench I'll use 5-10 times a year. I just dont have that money to toss around.

ANY SUGGESTIONS?

over time with use or just over time it comes loose? if you only use it 5-10 times a year it shouldnt be a problem should it?

craftsman DO NOT WARRANTY TORQUE WRENCHES. i found that out the hard way

90 day warranty with the craftsman. For 60 bucks a pop, i figure even if it dies in two years, I'd still pay less than most other wrenches if i bought a new one.

Dumb question for tlo86, what's SK?

It's just another tool brand. "SK" is the name.

Only 90 days on torque wrenches, just like any mechanical Craftsman tool more complicated than a ratchet.

No matter what you buy, always have it calibrated, and don't leave it set whenever possible; it should work just fine.

i have alot of SK tools.

I break alot of craftsman 10MM sockets

I have never broken an SK.

I prefer craftsman torque wrenches.. i've had mine for a long time and have never had any issues with it.

The Craftsman torque wrenches with the little number window work well, but be carefull not to twist the handle while using it. It will throw the reading off and they will not warranty it.

I buy the best tools I can afford at the time, doing it this way means decades of faultless service from the tool.

I'd rather buy 1 good tool than a set of 10 cheap ones.

Well after much searching this afternoon, I've decided to go pick up a craftsman. Couldn't find any others by a familiar brand for under 170.

yeah ive always liked SK, i use both sk and craftsman... IJ is right and everyone should do that too hehe it sucks having a wrench break in half and smack you in the face =/ and it was the last time i used cheap tools

The way I look at it is even if they replace the broken tool free they're NOT going to compensate me for the time and aggravation it takes to sort the problem and any damages caused when it breaks

I'm with IJ, I also buy for a lifetime of use. I've had many of my tools well over 25 years of flawless service. This is the wrench I bought when they first came out, a couple of years ago I had it calibrated just to see if it was still within specs and after many years of use and sitting, it was right on the money.

I have one that I got 30+ years ago I retired it and replaced it with another of the same thing and leave the old timer in the car for the Lugnuts
