What ever you use, you can't let it dry out. That just lets it solidify again. Why is this so much trouble? I did mine in about 20 minutes.:3d_frown:

I would asume that since the MHG had berely been put in it didnt go thru the harsh conditions a few months worth of driving would give it, weakening it maybe... I still have a little less then half to go on the top side and the whole bottom side.... I will just continue trying with diferent stuff untill something works....... I am about to try an Oxy scrub thingy used for ovens and grills... maybe that will work......

Be very careful with abrasive pads...did you soak it in paint thinner like IJ suggested?
(like over night)

Easy off, let it soak in for about 10 or 15 minutes. The viton is tough stuff no matter how long it's been in use. Don't scratch the gasket.

"Tough Stuff" is an understatement if you ask me but I found a combo that works decently to good.....

In about 25 min I got 65% done, in an hour tomorro morning it should be ready..... I soaked it in aceton for an hour and it didnt help, then tried again and nope. Then I tried soaking it with aceton and right away scrubbing but it really didnt bother the viton.... Then I used up whts left of the aceton can and left it a good 3 hrs and it just didnt work for me.... Iono, maybe I am just really bad this.....

It seems to be 98% ready, it does have a few tiny dots of viton but I will go over it again with rag before install.... Also the two questionable rivets are gone soo time to start praying it seals. Any recommendations at this stage? soaking it in simple gree on purple power to get it as clean as possible maybe?

You have to take all the rivets out, and clean the inner parts too. When it's totally clean all around, then you have to use Permatex copper spray, and spray all layers with it. It will not seal, if you don't do that.

Yeah, all rivets are gone and I will take care of removing viton off the inner layers tomorro.... I already have the copper spray... I was wondering, do I spray it and let it sit and dry before install or do I spray it and install it right away?.... Hopefully if God permits I will be installing it tomorro....

Remove all the rivets and the layers of a MHG will separate...clean both sides of each layer (keep them in order). When you install coat both sides of the bottom layer and lay it on the block with the index pins as a guide. Do the same thing for the remaining layers in order.

Jeez man, slow down and read...the above was on page 2. Just let the copper spray get tacky...put two coats on the surface mating to the block and head...one coat on all others.

I've been having the same problems. It seems the product brand is hit or miss.

With a cometic mhg with about a month of life in it its impossible after soaking each of these producs for 2+ hours and a wire brush here's 30 minutes of hard scrubbing:

Gotta be a better brand or some shit: If you had it easy like IJ and could rub it off with a rag please for god sakes post up what brand of whateverthefuck you used!!!
Frustrated has far long ago set in...
Can't tell in the pics but my wire brush is even scratching the hg.

Thanks!

I know..... ridiculous. The fuck is mine so strong? Did cometic cook up a new viton brew for the latest mhg's?? Well a new one's a whopping $200ish with shipping so I'll try one more chemical before I give up.

Again does anyone have a name brand for a paint thinner that works for them? My local osh sells a whole swarm of useless viton removing chemicals from the same company(Klean-Strip or something). I'm hoping with someone's success story with a certain brand paint thinner and a trip to Home Depot tomorrow I can end this stupid shit.

You would do that....

Older people do the darnest things!

My grandpa saves jars and pisses in them then throws it in gopher holes, he's badass.

Hopefully I'll be as cool as you guys one day :icon_razz

Ohhhhhhh man..... Where to start...

So it took 2 weeks because of school to finally clear all the viton off my cometic hg with vigorous scrubbing and I just attempted to copper spray/assemble.

One word:FAIL
sm_photo_missing.jpg

I assembled it in the wrong order and had to peel it all apart.....
I ran out of thinner+copper spray and stores are closed now too..
EPIC FAIL

I'm really surprised, this really requires some careful planning and thinking..... I kind of just threw down a board to spray and thought it'd be breeze.
I found it's really hard to assemble it while it's wet because I ran out of spray surfaces because they get all coppery and you don't want to lay down a clean hg layer on it till its dry, then while piecing layers together if you don't get it on perfectly straight it sticks and you have to slide it to fit which rubs the copper surfaces together inside... probably not good.

Does this really have to be assembled when it's wet, cant I just do a side individually and wait till it dries then assemble?

Anyways I have to come up with a new game plan.... not tonight or tomorrow hence school... but sometime this week for round 2.
