Ah, nope, not me. I was sitting at home at 5.30 lol. Haven't been up by there for a while.

Seriously, how many white package MkIII's or black MkIII's w/ silver 5 spokes can there be around here? lol.

So, all this talk about clay barring: A few ?'s. Is there a special trick to how I would go about doing it? How long and hard do I use it? And I can't use it on the bumpers cuz they're missing the clear coat, right? Any other tips for a newbie at paint care? Thanks guys!

Actually I have noticed a higher concentration of MKIII's in Hayward/Fremont area. I have so far seen at least 2 white package ones, and including yours, that makes 3. I have seen a few Black ones and some nice red ones as well, all in fairly good condition.

Clay baring is real easy.
Wash car with good car wash. I use Meguires Gold series. Its very sudsy, and smells real nice too lol . Takes a lot of crap off too.
Then you get the claybar kit. It comes with a quick detailer spray which yu can use as a lubricant. I only did one body section at a time. spray the detailer, rub the claybar over the paint until it feels real smooth , . Trust me, you will feel the difference.
do that to the whole car. It actually does not take that long when you do one section at a time. Clay bar is just that....its like plasticine.
Once you done, just give your car a good cleaner wax and stand back and enjoy the paint.

BTW: my first ever Sup[ra was a 89 : MINT WHITE package. It was the cleanest Supra I had ever owned. This was back in 1991.
If you ever have time, let me know because I would like to pose with my black car next to a white one and make a big poster of it.
Thanks.

Yeah, I could do that. Honestly, Its looking like I'll be real busy for a while, but perhaps on the same day I clay bar & wax, if I do it early I could let you take some pictures then. Ill PM you when I think I might have time coming up, are you thinking weekends? LMK.

I had the same problem with my first supra I had. Meguiars has some nice products you should try the next generation wax that's what I use on my supra that I have now.

Meguiars Next Generation Wax? I'll look for it. And the I'll compare against the rest of the recommendations in this thread. Lol.

BTW, Anyone know if its ok to use clay bar on the bumpers? The clear coat is gone, so will it strip the paint? Any help would be great. Thanks!

It is okay to use the clay bar on the bumper. It does not take off paint or such. It removes the dirt and grime and all the rest of the dirt from the paint.

That Meguiar's comes in 3 parts, "Deep Chrystal" 1= Cleaner, 2 = Polish and 3 = Carnuba Wax. If you do all 3 steps, your paint will look like brand new. Then just use the quick detailer to keep it glossy. This will work on even the most faded paint jobs. Alot of work, definitely since you basically have to wax the car 3 times, but truly amazing results and well worth the time.

3M products truly can't be beat...they are the best I've used, and it's all the little auto paint supply store by my house sells. And nobody uses Zymol cleaner wax?? :aigo: It is awesome and smells great too!

Your bumpers don't look to bad, they still look quite shiny in the pics, which leads me to believe that they still have clearcoat on them...the dirty streaks were just caused by oxidation, that's why the cleaner wax was able to remove them. If you didn't have any clearcoat, the wax would have soaked into the paint, and turned it a funky color...right?

If I were you (without seeing the car in person) I would:
1. Wash with Meguiar's Gold Class
2. Clay Bar ENTIRE car (might wanna do the rims too)
4. Hit the bumpers with 3M hand Glaze
5. Wax entire car (I would use Zymol)

In this pic look at the difference between the fender and the door...my entire car used to look like the door does in that pic. :aigo: And that isn't even as shiny as it turned out when it was done!

No, that's incorrect. Toyota only put clear on their metallic or pearl colors. The Super Red II, White and Black were single stage paints. When you compound them your rag will turn the color of the paint because it is removing a small amount of paint that has oxydized. This is normal.

Actually you do want the wax to soak into the paint, it adds oils pack to the paint. Oxydized paint is real chalky, paint needs wax to protect it from drying out.

A-ha!! Thank you for that clarification...I guess that makes sense considering i've only worked on pearl and metallic colors...:aigo:

New info to me! Does that apply to plain old Super Red as well?

Wait, so color 050 (super white 4) has no clear coat at all? I thought virtually all factory paint jobs were clear coated...

And is it normal for the rag to turn BLACK from a car with white paint? Cuz mine did...;)

And Johnathan, as for the wheels, they're in such bad shape I'm gonna strip and repaint (and hopefully fill in the chips) as soon as I have the time. They really are terrible.

I will wash it with the Gold Class as soon as I have a day I can set aside, then do some type of clay bar and wax. Rajunz, the Deep Crystal sounds good, but thats a whole lotta work...iono. Will using the same cleaner wax I used the first time, after a clay bar, still have a good improvement?

So far, I've had 3M, Zymol, Deep Crystal, and a few others recommended to me, anyone used more than one of these and know how they stack up against each other?
