MA70 Weight Reduction/Balancing

Ok... Im interested in reducing the weight on my 87 Turbo Supra, and at the same time trying to keep it balanced. What do I mean by balanced... That neither front, back, left or right will have more weight than the other... I know that this is hard to acheive seeing as the Supra is said to be nose heavy. I've also heard that Supra's tend to Understeer alot. Im not sure as to the validity of this seeing as I haven't had much time driving mine. Anyone know anything about this? I allready pulled the back seats out, and I'm thinking of relocating the battery to behind the passenger side seat.

I hear the incredibly comftrable seats are too heavy so replacing them with low-weight after market seats is a weight reduction in a way.
Also I'd say the A\C would remove some weight but not balanced

drivers side electric seat weighs eighty pounds. you can go to a junkyard and find a supra with the same interior and put its passenger seat in place of your heavy drivers seat. thats from the drag racing sticky. have you looked into a cf hood?

Relocate the battery first.... + weight in back ... - weight in front = less nose heavy.

Anyone know what the stock hood weighs? CF hood is definately something I'll be getting. CF targa would be nice too.

you have that backwards chief /\

the supra is actually very well balanced front to rear at 51/49. move the battery to the rear and then its extremely close to 50/50.

the power seats are extremely heavy as are the doors. start small (plywood in the trunk) and go from there.

ahaha let the flaming begin! I dont see the purpose in removing all of the luxuries a supra has when in reality its a 3500lb 80's demolition tank..

But to each their own, rip the interior out, rip the sound deadening off and dynamat, swap the seats out, take the power steering fan clutch, ac and remove the padding inside the dash and handles etc etc. Remove the spare tire..

Thats just weight reduction... keep in mind id like to balance out the car. Im trying to get the car to drive perfect... or atleast as close to it as possible... limit understeer, and have oversteer at my finger tips... you know... take turns as fast as possible without worry about the car fighting the turn.

The supra is pretty well balanced on weight as long as you have a tank of gas. The reason it seems so nose heavy is that when you brake hard your shifting the cars weight up towards the front and a 3500 lb car shifts alot of weight. Our old 20 year old suspension isnt helping that either.

Go with a good suspension system. If you wanna strip the car out itll help but the results depend on how much your willing to sacrifice.

Actually, it should be: "What are the similarities between a 400hp Supra, and a 1400 HP Supra? They both run 12's!"

People couldn't be more true about this. The reason why it is like this is because of the drivers. 400hp should get you easily into the 12's, even the 11's with a good tire/suspension setup. That is one reason why I love/hate this stereotype. As for lightening, first remove the spare, and the wood section. Then, battery re-location to the hatch, and then removal of backseats, and misc. rear interior pieces. From there, I'd say take off the door panels, carve out sections of the dash, and if you really wanted to go crazy, remove the passenger seat. For lightening, I myself plan on removing the spare, then taking out the backseats, covering it all up with a nice thin carpet.

Yes, the supra is very well balanced (sarcasm). 51/49 front and rear ratio? Please, explain it's need to push through every corner then. And about the 1300hp Supra example. You do not know what you are talking about. A 3spd automatic with a decent stall and that much power will bring a Supra into the 8s on wrinkle wall tires.

Now, what have I done to reduce weight and balance the Supra out? Everything stripped from the car, damn near literally just the unibody. Only putting in two seats, an aluminum dash, all suspension peices, lights, fuel accessories, engine and transmission. Should decently balanced I beleive, seeing as the engine is an LS6 weighing in at about 430 lbs. and thats with the ac compressor and all other accessories.
