It is really easy to change. Redline 75x90 works well. Remember to add friction modifier too. Get some sort of fluid pump to make the change even easier.

Red line 75W-90 already has the friction modifier in it's formulation...it does not need any additional. If you use Red Line 75W-90NS, you will need the modifier and can "custom add" to suit your LSD. A note on using Red Line...on some high mileage, worn LSD's it *can* induce clatter. It's going to depend on the condition of the clutch pack in the LSD. Ford 75W-90 gear oil is an alternative...you will need the Ford friction modifier additive if you go with this oil.

Get a StuLube Pump and a gallon of washer fluid. Pour the washer fluid into your reservoirs or into your neighbors cars too, and pour the oil in there and use the pump. Makes life very eazy.

+1 on the Ford lsd oil.

You need friction modifier with the Ford synthetic? I thought they started mixing it in a few years back... now if only I could remember where I read that.

I don't use the synthetic.

If I had the diff rebuilt I would, but I don't want to induce chatter...

redline made my diff a lot louder... never really thought about it, but especially when its cold... i should probably check the fluid level too now thats its been a few hundred miles...

but the ford 75w90 is just as good though?

When I went to ford the parts guy told me that the XY*80W90*QL was the non-synthetic blend. The ford XY*75W140*QL is the synthetic product.

The back of the bottle on the XY 80W90 QL reads " add ford friction modifer for LSD"

If you do a google search on XY 75w140 QL you will find that there is a TSB on chattering ford rear ends. They Remedy the problem with the synthetic fluid XY 75w140 QL and they add the friction modifer XL3 as well. Seems like the friction modifier is a fix it all for ford.

I used the non synthetic and added the friction modifer XL3 and all is well.
