So I was in a drive thru last night. And you know when you drive a low car, Normally a truck or some larger sedans lights shine right into your car and into your mirror causing blindness?

Well last night some guy in a Tahoe turned his lights off. I turned around, and said Thank you.

I was amazed that,

1. Someone was that considerate
2. That people are genuinely kind still in this day.

Anyone else get that?

I can't remember who it was, but someone on here made a thread just like this. Instead, it was another mkiii. As a way of saying thanks, he paid for the food of the guy behind him iirc.

Here in Japan that is actually customary to do that sort of thing. We also turn our headlights out when we are pulling up tp redlights or making a right hand turn as well.

As an owner of a pickup, you really do notice when your lights are in other peoples faces espicially at drive thrus. In my lifted Doge I almost always turned them off if I was behind a low car. In the Ford im not nearly as high (its lowered) so I dont find myself lighting up peoples cabins.

That's awesome. Most people are completely oblivious to this. It's going to be hell when I eventually get a "car" [rather than the big van I drive now] because there are SO MANY large vehicles in town here. Who would have thought that every soccer-mom needed a SUV.. my Mom works at an elementary school, and one day I went to see her right about the time school let out for the day - I think that of all cars waiting for children, I couldn't count regular cars on one hand. None of them are terribly intelligent or considerate. Take a look at them on their phones while they drive - what makes you think they are going to step out of their important little world and be considerate enough to undergo all of that effort to temporarily turn off their lights for you?
People here, and where I used to live can get so bad that most of the time, I have my rearview mirror flipped up to kill anything from the back, and they won't see my hand out the window blocking the light coming from my sideview.
I have to tell you that the Supra was good for mirror positioning - I was able to look through the rearview and re-direct truck/SUV level lights right back into people's eyes with the sideviews in places like drive-thoughs. The funny thing is, most of the time you will see the drivers shift their position in the vehicle rather than turn their lights off. Some people are oblivious, and have a total lack of consideration for others.
I think that if someone does turn their lights off for you, it would be cool to reward them in some way so they continue the behavior, but you shouldn't HAVE to reward them. Shouldn't we have enough awareness and considerations for others that we would do that naturally? Those truck and SUV drivers MUST have driven a regular sized car and had a truck behind them at night, and known the irritation and hazard it presents.
