well i have a 88 GTE 5spd, and every time i drive the car, or when i start to drive the car, mostly on highways, i have been super amount of hot air around the foot area and by the shifter area, these past couple of days has been super hot, i still have the stock cats, and im sure those arnt helping since the car smells like ass and gives great amount of heat, but does any one else car does that? i have the top off and its still super hot by the foot area. is there a way to keep the heat away from the inside of the car? also i have checked the settings of the climate control, and it is at 65, i dont have refrigerant yet, but the a/c does work, i just need to do a refill. also i did and had to bypass the valve switch for the heater core, can that be the problem?

You bypassed the switch for the heater core? So it's open all the time? That would be your problem if you did...

Also, if it's around the shifter, sounds like some of the boots are torn or missing.

neither, car is solid, clogged cat? not sure, car smells bad tho after a good drive in the hot weather, and theres no leak on the exhaust, and car does not over heat either, and i still have the heat shield on too, but i do have both the cats on, i do plan on removing them since i dont do emissions

Bypassing the heater valve won't make the inside of the car that hot poo...infact you can't even notice it if it's 90 deg out with no ac...as it's still friggin hot.

If you have the heater core flowing it will be hot, would just be compounding his issue if it's his cats.

If your cats are clogged, find the reason and fix it...

well the car has a bad smell like rotten eggs type thing, well i went to take another look after i did the head gasket and noticed that the first cat is sitting on the transmission, i also went for another ride around town taking it easy and the car was nice and cool.

also the heat starts from more of the passenger side and then goes to the driver, but then again i think its cause the cat is sitting on the transmission now.

when I ran just the dp on my car it would get toasty quick on pass side then went over to the driver, thats the only reason why I thought clogged cat or ex leak. if you cat is reasting on the trans, well thats a problem. start there, maybe test the cat at some point too.

May compound the issue sure...my valve is wired open as my vsv is faulty...had some really hot days recently and it felt no different than my na with the valve working! Keep in mind that even with the valve closed it still flows coolant threw the heatercore.

lol, well my VSV was broken when i got it and the PO just did the by pass, plus most of the stuff on this car was messed up, i didnt care much since my tercel was more of shit box, the motor i put in the tercel cost more than the car since it came from japan, but im gonna look more into the exhaust now since its resting on the tranny, also corollas and avalon has the same design as the VSV, but the supra is way beyond getting hot, even my N/A was never this hot

Egg smell doesn't necessarily mean the cat is bad, but it does mean you are not getting 3 way reduction, or have excess sulfur in the fuel for some reason.

And I think it is a trait of Cressidas and Supras with a 7M to have a warm center console/shifter area.

True, doesn't mean the cat is bad, but it's a clear sign something is wrong.

Most RWD cars have a warm center console area, hell, on the miata where they don't use sound or heat insulation for weight reasons, they use it over the gas tank and around the shifter for specificly those reasons.

They don't close completely as to eliminate air bubbles etc....you never want to block off a fluid path...even in an oil cooler setup the thermostat should let a small amount of oil to flow threw the cooler at all times;-)

with my na I blew the headgasket but still drove the car for a few months...I cut the zip ties holding the valve open and you could still hear waterfall sounds behind the dash on start up...the valve doesn't form a perfect seal.
