I blew a stock headgasket recently after rebuilding the head. Head surface looked good. Block surface was kind of pitted in one spot. ARPS torqued to 75 ft-lbs. Well tuned. It lasted about three months of easy use before blowing right where the block deck was questionnable.

I knew I was taking a chance on that block. There are limits to what torquing down on a rough block can accomplish. That's why I am about to rebuild the engine with a MHG.

This is the exact story you are 5 times more likely to hear, thank you for sharing!

The only thing I don't get is those that switch to the 1JZ, and have no intention of increasing the power. If you spend all that time pulling the engine, and the money, why not pull the 7M, and actually deck the head and block like you are supposed too? If they are not flat and pit free that is.

You have to drive a 1jz car to really understand why people like it so much.

I'm with you there Jonathan!! I feel the same.. Should I install my 60-1 BB? Would it be ok to boost it around 15psi??

I took as much precaution as I knew.. Maybe it will hold up.. I guess we will see...

If not,, Then I will have an excuse for a total rebuild with forged internals. :naughty:

Well, I installed the 60-1.. Would 10psi on the 60-1 be more risky for a BHG than 14lbs on a stock CT.. I just want someone to tell me it will be alright.. I did copper kote the stock HG. I also used ARP studs @ 85lbs..

In August I replaced my BHG with a stock HG From Car Quest. Used stock head bolts torqued down to 75ft. lbs. and decided to go this route after reading SM threads. Only problem I have now is RK. Top of motor is just fine and everything is stock including boost. Runs like a top.

I wish I could have gone single or something like that before selling my car, but other than that I am 100% happy and satisfied with my choice to switch. Even after blowing up 1 motor and having 2 sets of smokey twins, my opinion and enthusiasm for the 1J has not changed.

Also, I never had BHG or rodknock with my 7M. It's still running in another car.

i run a stock hg w/stock headblts @ 58lbs/ft @8psi, sometimes 10psi with a 50trim ct-26. no problems for 1 year. had a stock hg @ 75lbs/ft @ 12 psi on a stock ct-26 last for 30k including 2 trips back and forth from colorado to ohio. and it only blew b/c of a sticking thermostat.
