Woo hoo! Car crushing fun!

On a more serious note..

"Car junkies who pour thousands of dollars into their vehicles to make them as fast as possible are wasting their money, Mr. Bryant said."

That one hurt.

Too bad they can't see the real problem here. The irresponsible drivers behind the wheel. Without a driver the car isn't dangerous whatsoever.

That article is really awful.

It amazes me that they can even consider crushing cars for street racing or mods and not crush cars for DUI which causes far more deaths.

not where i live, i dont think. It looks like its provincial legislation in ontario.

just one more reason to keep racing on the track and keep your car looking like a sleeper...

"Mr. Bryant said cars built for street racing are as dangerous as explosives and can cause catastrophic damage."

How is a modded car anymore dangerous than a stock one as far as potential to cause damage? Maybe they should worry about seizing and crushing old or defective cars that leak flammable fluids profusely.

truth. in my hometown company owned work trucks cause more deaths (minimum 2 or so per year for the past few years) on the highway through town than small modified cars do. and thats just in a small city.

i think its just some poorly thought out reactionary legislation, brought into effect due to a few highschool kids with riced out hondas killing themselves racing from street lights.

wow, complete BS. if someone in politics wanted to crush my car after i put time, effort, blood, sweat and tears into it, i would sue for the emotional damages it would surely cause. besides, you KNOW they will target the imports, as they probably wont take a classic #matching camaro SS and crush it because the guy has a blower sticking out of his hood.

If someone is doing up a car for the track and it is legal for driving on the street, (like mine) I am now going to be classified as a "street racer"? What a joke. Just because someone has high dollar part on their car doesn't mean they street race. This guy is an idiot. :nono:

A side note: Somone died last night when his mommy gave him a car. It was a 350Z and they called it a "highly powered Sports car". :3d_frown: If he was driving a Caravan, he would have done the same thing.

thats the truth. it's totally targeting imports. which really isn't fair as it is a select few idiots that give imports a bad name

I wish people who make the laws would study things before they go and make themselves look like idiots.

Problem I see coming, is to try and ban sales of "Sports Cars". They have gone this far, why wouldn't the idiots try and impose it.

^Maybe if that happened they would realize that the people killing/dieing in sports cars will still be doing exactly the same thing in "normal" cars.

I think the sale of ABSURDLY MASSIVE pickups and SUVs should be banned. They wreak much more havoc on the roads then the (comparably very few) sports cars driving around.

So true, sportscars are alot safer than people act like they are. A soccer mom and her SUV on the Cell phone around a corner is worse than some riced out civic.

Right on the money...I think this is a big deal because it gets the Attorney General some TV coverage.

Right! That's like saying guns are responsible for murder. The perpetrator goes to jail, not the gun.

I think you're underestimating the lobbying power of automobile makers.
This is another rediculous example of people being scared into giving up rights in the name of security.

Ben Franklin said, "A man who is willing to give up freedom for security deserves neither".

They can't actually do this shit. All that guy Bryant wants to do is get his name in the paper about street racing since it's a big deal right now.

Recently there was a death on the 400 highway up near Barrie(near Toronto) caused by "street racing". This crash took the life of a transport truck driver who drove off the road instead of into oncoming traffic due to other careless drivers on the road. While I find it tragic that such an event took place and I feel for the family of this man, I think it's complete B.S to jump the gun and call it street racing. They have no proof that these idiots were "racing". They were probably just driving too fast/recklessly. The type of car should not be the concern...it should be the actions of each individual driver. FYI the cars were a Mustang, a Honda and I think a Grand Prix.

A friend of mine wrote a letter to a radio station who was insulting modified cars and got it read on the radio. He has a modded car and took offence to the complete ignorance that is the local media of Toronto. This was one small victory for car enthusiasts in the GTA...quite possibly the only one. God I hate dumbass politicians.

I'm gonna go drive around at the speed limit in my Supra...if you don't hear from me soon, I was probly arrested or shot.

here's a link to the crash
