This is a question for the removal of the crankshaft pulley. It isn't stated in my manual which way the bolt is threaded and after just using an impact gun running at 160 psi regulated im starting to worry that lefty loosey might just be lefty tighty. I have the JDM 7m, is there even a difference between the two in this aspect? Thanks for any input or help on this.

I recall some people placing the socket on the bolt, putting a wrench with a breaker bar on the socket and letting the breaker bar rest against the ground. A quick flick of the key to turn the car on (take the EFI fuse out just in case haha) will crack the bolt loose.

That wouldn't work if it was reverse threaded.

If you can get it loose without doing that little trick, do it.

Remember to lay the breaker bar down on the drivers side lol. Engine turns clockwise so if you put it on the other side it would swing up. Crank pulley bolt is regular threads, just probably really tight.

Alright, thanks for the help.

Yeah, generally it takes more than 160 ft-lbs to break it loose.
...then again...some people just check and find that the bolt is missing...

It must be on a stand if he's use an impact gun...

not really, just remove the rad.

BTW, when i took the pulley off mine I had to use a puller. Just bringing that to the table.

Sam

a little wiggling most of the time will get it off unless its the first time since the engine was built.

lefty loosey is right. and yes 160 ft-lbs is not enough. i used an electric impact gun. held on it for about 10-15 seconds and it cranked free. iirc its torqued on to like 195ft-lbs so ya lol
try the starter method.

Umm, wow some people need to reread the original post. He never mentioned the ft-lbs used. He said he used 160 psi on the impact gun. If it's a good gun of decent size it could be a considerable amount of torque, then again if it was a Walmart special, it might not even do 100 ft-lbs.

So is it on a stand or is it still in car? If it is on a stand, I took a piece of 1/4" stock 2" wide, drilled two holes in it to run two flywheel bolts through and made it long enough hit the stand leg on the ground, then used a breaker bar with a 48" cheater bar... came loose right away... but for sure had to use puller to get pulley off (when you put it back on you can use some anti-seize on the crank shaft (not bolt) to make it easier next time... Let us know if you were successful or not in getting it loose...

mine came off by hand. i know is been on there for about 70,000 miles but it helped there was no crank key and the pully wasnt spinning as fast. starter method is the best way to do it.
