The debate about Lambo doors on the Mk3 is a real anomaly. When it was a new idea and rare, a Mk3 with vertical doors was generally considered very cool and sexy looking. Now that the mod has been overdone by ricers and rednecks, the same mod is now crap? I cannot think of any other mod that fits this category.
I've always considered it crap. It adds weight, and after the first handful of cars it wasn't novel. Once you could buy off the shelf kits, it became just like Alzetta tails.

If this holds true, how can a 4" muffler tip look cool on a Supra but ricey on a Honda?
Because a 4" muffller on a Supra likely flows through 3.5" or 4" exhaust, that the turbocharged 3.0 liter motor of the Supra can utilize, at high boost. A 1.2 liter econobox with a fart can is, by definition, ricey.

Probably because it is overkill for a 4 cyl NA.
Exactly.

Short dinky lambo doors look corny, but proper sports cars with long doors make the mod look good.
Maybe, back when it was something unique, different, maybe so. Now days it's one of the calling cards of the rice boy. It's all opinion by the way, what's good for one guy sucks for another.
I simply dislike it anytime I see the MKIII "degraded" - it's a car with a reputation and image problem, and it's horribly undeserved. The MKIII is one of the few great automobiles to come out of the 1980's and it gets shit on because of zipperheads who rice them out, mod them when they can barely even afford to own them and treat them like shit.
But as I said, it's opinion...

Since when do Honda owners dictate what looks good on a Supra??
They don't, but they do tend to define what's très chic in rice however...
